Love that Ozymand'
Sculptin' with his hammer and a'-
Workin' with his hands
Never was a quitter
In this land devoid of raindrops
You've got to look!

And he goes
Nanananana...
Your chilly sneer
Of cold command
Your trunkless legs
Upon the sand
Once awed the Persian, Turk,
And Damascene

A pedastal
Beside your smirk
Proclaims “Look up,
You lazy jerk!
Behold the mighty work
Of great
Jolene.”
i never saw two trunkless legs
i never hope to see 'em
but i can tell you, anyhow,
i'd rather see than be 'em

Each issue of Maggot Brain is a reliably good read from cover to cover, but Andy's column is what prodded me into finally subscribing, and this piece was a highlight. Well deserved!
Honored and elated to have won a 2025 ASCAP Foundation Deems Taylor/Virgil Thomson Award for “Extinctophonics: The Game Of Jim” in Maggot Brain #18. Hugest gratitude to @mikemcgonigal.bsky.social and Mairead Case for giving it a home.

MB remains analog-only, but you can read the piece here:

Jack DeJohnette RIP. Here he's in charge of shaping the live band arrangements, giving Lloyd's tunes the architecture and personalities that'll make those tunes live in people's minds on the ride home. His solo on Pre-Dawn rips, and his fills during the trio section in Forest Flower are thrilling.

Steacy Easton, everybody.

On "Will the Circle Be Unbroken":
"The thing about an unbroken circle is that some people are always in it and some people are always out of it."

On "Wait 'Til I Get You Home":
"The song is doubly horny, conceptually committed to the horn."
