Grandmother Fish (Macmillan 2016), the first book to teach #evolution to preschoolers, plus science games for kids (www.grandmotherfish.com). Over the Edge, #TTRPG of surreal urban danger (atlas-games.com/overtheedge). D&D 3E, Ars Magica, Everway, etc.

Grandmother Fish is the first book to teach evolution to preschoolers. Kids love learning that they are part of the great family of life on Earth, and they love wiggling like Grandmother Fish and hooting like Grandmother Ape. Now in Chinese, Japanese, and Italian.

Strangely satisfying to see dungeon-adventure tropes in action. You will know in the opening scene whether you want to see the rest of the video. I added this song to my playlist for Mighty-Ones/freeform-OGL-oldschool. #ttrpg

Got together w Karen (the Grandmother Fish artist) to talk about three projects to collaborate on. After years of doing different things, the timing is right for us to start working together again, and we're excited! Among other things, Karen is a children's science illustrator.

Here's the game that sunk* TSR, and now it can be yours! After Magic, game companies jumped on randomized, collectable games, and TSR bet the farm on Dragon Dice. Nice cover image; failed game. #TSR

Turns out that "vulture" is like "tree", not a proper taxonomic group (a clade) but a folk category. I guess eating dead things is such a good strategy that raptors have evolved the practice three times (and one time it includes eating bones, which is gross, but OK). #evolution

This game looks fun: partly a trick-taking game with objective rules for who scores how many points plus free-form deal-making (and bluffing) plus gonzo wrestling. Wrestlers are like FRP characters: fun names, fun outfits, fun special moves, and you almost always survive the fights. 1/2

It's Savage Worlds, 1st edition, a generic system that's faster & more dramatic than GURPS, thus more to my taste. I've always had a soft spot for universal systems, and this one has a ton of support. Also Rippers, a Savage Worlds minis game.

I believe that this is a strong hypothesis for where we got coal, oil, and natural gas. Trees sank into the ocean. If we're digging up the carbon from those ancient trees, here's a proposal to basically reverse the release of carbon dioxide by repeating the process artificially.
Scientists are proposing an unusual way to store carbon: cutting trees in the Boreal region and sinking them deep in the Arctic Ocean. The proposal is intended to prevent the eventual release of carbon dioxide from old forest.

At the Seattle store "Math & Stuff", they're selling little enamel pins of D&D monsters re-imagined as pool floaties (no license). Is this the future of roleplaying that I wanted in the ’90s? Maybe not.

The new Apocalypse World is coming my way, and I plan to take another shot at running it for my D&D/13th-Age focused game group. Can someone point me to a good actual-play session that I can listen to on the stationary bike? I've played it (thanks @johnharper.bsky.social) but want more.

If you're a TTRPG game designer making a rogue and steal nothing else from 13th Age, please steal this. It solves so many issues I have with the hide-attack-hide loop I see in a lot of traditional F20 TTRPGs.
