Philly stuff. Outdoorsy stuff. Artsy stuff. Maybe a LOT of xc skiing stuff on winter weekends? I'm as confused as you are.
I've been watching xc skiing with some regularity for 6 years now, and I have to say that there is something about the context of the Olympics that transforms Klaebo from the merciless-cyborg-who-wins-everything vibe he inhabits during the WC into something both greater and more human.

Diggins helping Samaneh Beyrami Baher from Iran and Regina Martinez Lorenzo (first-ever Mexican XC skier in the Olympics) get out of their skis at the finish line. The best of us.

Jessie Diggins fights through the rib injury, comes in 3rd, the collapse at the finish looks...worse than usual. Shades of her silver medal performance in Beijing when she had food poisoning for the 30k. Legendary stuff.

After some great men's results in the World Cup, today's skiathlon has gotta be chalked up as a disappointment. Gus Schumacher is the first American in 24th; the other guys in the 30s and 40s. Oof.

Frankfurt newspaper on Diggins speaking out:

"Their voices, and those of many others, demonstrate one thing above all, in my view: There are many Americans who are rebelling. And who are not afraid."

Jessie Diggins 8th in the skiathlon today, swimming upstream after getting tangled up during the first classic lap. (Her classic skis also looked mid; despite a lot of conversation from the commentators about her World Cup workload, I think the fitness is there.)

This is less of a "downhill course" and more of a "ravenous monster conjured from the depths of our collective unconscious." #olympics

I think Jessie Diggins said it well when she said, essentially, that she gets to decide who she competes for and she’s not competing for the racists

Pro tip for any Hill journos, the Speaker can approve 24hr protection for Members who are under heightened threat. Omar used to have this, but Mike Johnson took it away. You should ask him about that

People are definitely setting up a barricade of trash cans and this couch, in the middle of the street where ICE is.

"That's my couch," said a woman standing nearby. "It's been on my porch for four years because it won't fit up the stairs. My neighbor will be pleased it's gone now."
