"I watched a lot of Alan Partridge on the flight and now I'm hyped for Norwich" is a bit of a weird thing to say upon landing in Tokyo but I have just said it.

It’s sort of insane how pervasive the framing that multiculturalism is some weird liberal experiment has become.

It’s the default state of what happens when people have easy movement and aren’t actively being told to hate each other. You can prove it by going outside in almost any city.
Hard agree. I'm increasingly just zero sympathy for the cowardly chauvinists who can't handle places where lots of different people get along together.
I realise I'm just a freak, but living in a multicultural city is the best thing of all time, it's just the best possible human experience and i can not understand why anyone on earth would be like "weve got to destroy this"

Making random changes to some code I don't understand and seeing whether it results in more or less test failures. I probably could get an LLM to do this for me.

Once again my firm conviction is that ordinary people are meeting the moment in a way that the upper echelons of the media, judiciary, and capital (albeit I probably didn't expect any better from them) are not. People, in fact, are typically not so evil as fascists want and need us to be.
I added captions to this video of people heckling Greg Bovino leaving a Target in Minneapolis, and there's so many people yelling things at him it's like a comedy skit

the vibes are so fucking bad, man.

they‘re bad not even because of any component inherent to the technology itself (not even the ethicality of the training data, imo!).

just everyone coked out of their mind gorging themselves on the seed corn of our industry.

kind of darkly funny that "gender studies" is the stereotypical "useless degree" because gender studies will help you understand a large and important chunk of the current psychosis in american life

Questions you ask when doing something diabolical
how do people share Nix store paths in a K8s cluster at scale?

e.g. if i want to set up a CI system where i don’t need each pod to wait for binary substitution before it’s ready to build

that’s easy with a dedicated set of builders and the semantics of GC all make sense, but not so much with K8s.

I don’t think it could be more clear that they have no intention whatsoever of resisting the global rise of fascism, or that they are absolutely committed to ensuring a future far right government will have as many coercive powers to use against protestors and dissidents as they can push through now

i have had to say, in writing, at work, "the only thing we should ever write in python is code for calling AI libraries" at least three times
On a vacation I heard a teenager talking to his dad about coding. The kid was at that era of perfect insufferability, good enough to be sure he knew everything and thus condescend to his father.

He said “python is lame, that’s just for AI developers” and my brain melted
