My favorite thing about being a reviewer for library publications is relying on the third law of library science, so whether I like the book or not, I focus on who WILL like it.
Bullseye.

So many confuse "This did not appeal to my specific sensibilities, and did not do what I would have done, therefore it is terrible" and "This didn't work for me, and that's okay."
The paragraph about TV Tropes is spot on. I can't bear that approach to criticism where the main aim seems to be asserting superiority to the work. People who'll identify an influence and be like "Ah, rumbled!" episodes.ghost.io/art-criticis...

When we say "no, everything hasn't been digitized," I need you to understand that we really mean is that virtually nothing has been digitized. This is because the realm of primary sources that historians use is incomprehensibly large.

To be fair, the author was working at Yale at the time and I can only find an English copy from Yale as well... and they are much better resourced. This English revised copy from 2018 is not in the Yale catalogue... and could disappear on me at any time probably.

Frustrated that I can only find the English version of a resource that was originally translated into Chinese, French, Portuguese, Spanish, Korean and Swahili as well.

I wish the Overseas Ministry Center and the IAMs had better regular electronic archive maintenance and preservation.

You can get your child vaccinated…

…if they’re not immunocompromised

…but it may not trigger a strong immune response

…but an initially strong immune response may wane over time

Vaccination protocols allow a community to protect its children, collectively. No one can do it alone.
RFK Jr. is going to end CDC recommendations for most childhood vaccines.

It will take a few years before the deaths and disabilities ramp up to a level that even the most vile Republican cannot tolerate.

RFK Jr. will be long gone and unaccountable, as our babies die from preventable illness.

@andrewmarkhenry.bsky.social FYI you've got a typo in the "Who We Are" section of The Religion Department landing page

"not matter what your experience level" instead of "no matter your"

Best wishes for this venture.

Getting caught up.

I found Aaronovitch's The Masquerades of Spring to be a delightful mix of Wodehouse, an outsider's view of the Harlem Renaissance, and Aaronovitch's wry approach to the magic-touched procedural. Recommended. 🏳️‍🌈Diverse cast of characters & a short read good for your 🛫 book.

It seems the GOP would rather protect children from hormones than bullets. Why? Because bodily autonomy is more threatening than guns. Because freedom of choice threatens their grip on power, which is supported by untenable claims that God is on their side alone.
