Hi folks! Excited to make new connections via the Religious Studies Scholars starter pack (ty, @alana-m-vincent.net!)

I’m biblical scholar using sociology & trauma studies to understand what ancient texts can teach us about naming & resisting economic, religious, & ethnic oppression
Going to put this on auto reply for certain email addresses that frequent my inbox

In all seriousness, great piece!

Often think about what Campo writes as to great art standing on its own accord, not needing qualification

Religious musicians like Bob Marley and the the Bible-focused songs U2 wrote in the ‘80s were religious works, but that wasn’t their artworks’ one-trick pony

OPINION: J.R.R. Tolkien and C. S. Lewis were profound storytellers whose narrative, and their power to narrate, was enhanced by their faith. But neither is commonly called a “Christian writer,” nor are their books limited to the Christian shelves of bookstores.

The politicians of the world’s wealthiest nation are failing to provide healthcare for its citizens because they serve the financial interests of those who already have more money than they could possibly spend

The rest get the scraps
If Chuck Schumer was a stronger leader, he would have been able to convince most of these senators to hold the line.

I’m terribly disappointed in him.

We need a democracy for the people, not the profiteers
Sanders: Let’s be clear… If this vote succeeds, over 20 million Americans are going to see at least a doubling in their premiums… if resolution is passed tonight, we are on a path way to throw 15 million Americans off of medicaid and the affordable care act, 15 million.

virtue signalling is good actually
Performative decency is actually *so* important for this reason.

It tricks the 10% of ghouls into thinking that there are only 1% of ghouls.

And it makes the 30% of people that don't care one way or another follow the mostly decent crowd
