Chuck Schumer just told CNN, in the wake of Kimmel’s suspension, that “we are not that country.”

Alas we are, now. Maybe not forever. But now.

He's nuts. Absolutely off the rails.
I guess "ocean" isn't one of the words they test when the president makes his monthly visit to the dementia ward.
Trump: I hate even talking about ICE. 2 people out of tens of thousands and you get bad publicity.

Host: But it was 2 Americans who died—

Trump: We have the smallest trucks. We've been very tough on the waters

Host: The waters?

Trump: The waters where we knock out boats

One way for the media to win back the respect of viewers would be for them to show us that they have some self-respect of their own.

When you let the president denigrate and humiliate your colleagues without saying a word, you're not really giving off a "holding the powerful to account" vibe
Trump's constant degradation of female reporters is unsurprising but the press corps' collective decision to treat it as background noise is actually kind of sickening

When Sullivan says they don't "seem to know how to bring anything other than wide-eyed credulity to his utterances," I hear her as saying, "there may be some missing knowledge here."

Yes, missing. Not just the will or (excuse me) the balls, but a how-to part that's still under-developed.

Possible?
"The news media doesn’t seem to know how to bring anything other than wide-eyed credulity to Trump's utterances, even after all the lies and deceit of the past decade."

"Chaplains of all faiths were told 'not to mention VA nurses at all, let alone the name Alex Pretti, at worship or gatherings,' according to The Republican newspaper of Springfield, Massachusetts. Emails containing this directive were sent to chaplains at the end of January" by the state VA office.
Alex Pretti, an ICU nurse at VA hospital in Minneapolis, was killed by officers of the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol last month. He is being memorialized nationwide, but chaplains at VA facilities in MA have been barred from mentioning his name -- or even counseling nurses.

News from central Jersey: I'm running to represent New Jersey's 12th Congressional District.

By entering the fray, I hope to bring ideas of repairing our frayed republic. Not only to defend it in 2026, but to build something stronger, for generations to come!

I'm a 26-year resident of central Jersey. My parents fled communism in 1949 and came to the United States in the 1960s. My siblings and I were raised by librarians - modest means, but education came first. Their support enabled me to attend Caltech at age 15 - the start of my scientific career.

Bernie is right: we shouldn’t have billionaires
New analysis shows that Jeff Bezos could absorb the Washington Post's annual losses for 5 years with the amount he makes in a single week.

His net worth has increased by $224 billion since buying the paper.

I personally think this is now all too clear - oligarchs catching and killing the mainstream media infrastructure so their repugnant crimes against humanity and the planet are hidden from public view - but **please** let's all say it louder for the people in the back.
Everybody has it backwards.

Billionaires aren’t buying up these institutions to make money. They’re buying them to kill them. Same as the oligarchs destroying government and social programs and things like weather forecasting and regulatory bodies.

They’re creating a world they control completely

But as we all wring our hands, let's also be clear: the task yesterday was to build media institutions independent of these greasy oligarchs. That task hasn't changed today, although maybe now we have more clarity and more urgency. Please support your chosen sources of independent media.
