so about the relationship between the state and capital
“Moderna’s CEO announced the company will no longer invest in new Phase 3 vaccine trials for infectious diseases: ‘You cannot make a return on investment if you don’t have access to the U.S. market.’ Vaccines for Epstein-Barr virus, herpes, and shingles have been shelved.”
Moderna chief: Company won’t invest in new late-stage vaccine trials
Moderna has already been facing declines in sales after a boom during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Don't let the liberals squash this moment like they have every recent anti-carceral movement by turning "Abolish ICE" into "Defund ICE" into "ICE needs better training" resulting in rehabilitation PR and ultimately increased funding for "reforms."

It's "Abolish ICE" loud and clear, no qualifiers.

US citizen says ICE removed him from his Minnesota home in his underwear after warrantless search
Federal immigration agents have detained a U.S. citizen in Minnesota at gunpoint without a warrant. That's according to ChongLy “Scott” Thao, who says agents forced open his door, entered with guns drawn and led him outside in his underwear in freezing conditions.

I’m seeing posts from people (outside of MN) about how US citizens should carry their passports.

And let me say that *inside* MN, we are calmly responding to requests with: “No, I don’t have to show you any documentation.”

Because that’s how you protect everyone, regardless of immigration status.

It's not lost on me that an intended side effect of doing this is putting children of color behind in their educations.
Apparently ICE goons in multi-car caravans are circling Spanish immersion preschools in the city taunting and photographing the parents and neighbors who are patrolling the school perimeter to keep kids safe.

I know people on Bsky know this but I hope it filters out: The feds are OCCUPYING the Twin Cities. This is a blockade, a siege. They are shutting down economic and civic activity. They are conducting "papers please" stops. They are criminalizing being a bystander/witness.

You could be next.

🌲 Evergreen reminder that some organizing conversations are best had in-person, and definitely not on social media, especially Facebook, and especially discussions of specific tactics 💕

So MLA just gives platforms to Zionists who wrote about how the pro-Palestine movement is anti-Semitic, huh? Cool, cool.

Anyway, some of us are gonna talk about BDS stuff in a roundtable at 12. I'll probably just yell & sound irritable but I am sure my colleagues will have very smart things to say.

Remember this is typical IDF behavior in Palestine, and that white folks made desecrating the bodies of lynching victims a ritual
Just seen Grok putting the body of the victim of the ICE shooting in Minneapolis into a bikini. Digital corpse desecration now available to the public.

A local rapid response group I work with is desperately trying to raise $5K tonight to get immediate legal representation for a group member who is facing deportation. It is crucial that these funds be raised by tomorrow. These are organizers I trust.

What you're seeing in that video of ICE murdering a woman in broad daylight (I'm not sharing it) is a tactic that the police have been using against Black people and their comrades for over a century. Down to the "it was self-defense b/c she was trying to run us over" script.

I need people to wrap their minds around the fact that here in Minneapolis, ICE broke the window of a vehicle yesterday, pepper sprayed the occupants, and arrested them, and shot another observer in the face today, and OBSERVERS ARE STILL GOING OUT TO PROTECT THEIR NEIGHBORS AT MASSIVE PERSONAL RISK
I’m eating lunch, I’m having a panic attack, I’m charging my phone, and then I’m going back out to try and keep my neighborhood safe.

We’ve seen this in Chicago. Now we’re seeing it across the country.

ICE is a lawless secret police force and must be abolished. This is fucking horrific.
Absolutely horrific details about an ICE shooting in Minneapolis.

A witness says a woman was trying to drive away from an ICE operation and the ICE agent "reached across the hood of the car and shot her in the face like three, four times."

Bovino was there.

This is horrifying and reprehensible AND shit like this happens extremely often to trans lawyers, witnesses, and parties
Actual exchange from court today:

Me: I can't do January 20 for the hearing, your honor, because I'm having surgery, but I can do [dates in February]

Judge: Ordinarily I'd accommodate medical issues, but not for people like you. Attend from the hospital if you have to.

I'm feeling very powerless knowing that there is no anti-imperialist movement or even opposition party in the US with the teeth necessary to stop this. But still we organize and we fight. Because those of us in the Imperial Core have no right to despair or to fold our hands in resignation.

They really said "we're gonna bomb Venezuela for oil" and went ahead and did it. It's Bush-Cheney without the performance. Just straight up, bald-faced evil.

Repeating til I'm blue in the face that the US is the Evil Empire we should all root against.

Solidarity with the people of Venezuela.

Since finishing grad school and taking my first contingent 4/4 teaching job, December has consistently been my biggest writing time. It's nearly impossible for me to find time to write during the semester, so it happens during "breaks," and Dec/Jan has become my most productive research season.

Reason number 437 that Newsome sucks, actually.

The only thing going for him is that he's a straight white man running as a Democrat who can do a decent "Tough Guy" performance on social media. He is the definition of all style and no substance but his style is literally just white masculinity.
By the way, Gavin Newsom is apparently raising money to fight AGAINST the billionaire tax. So thoughtful of him to come to their aid at this particular time in history,

I sighed. "I really do have trouble not being able to figure out if what you've painted is about to be day or night."

Ruth rolled toward me [...] "It's not going to be day or night, Jess. It's always going to be that moment of infinite possibility that connects them."

When I was a grad student and struggled to articulate the distinction between feminist theory and queer theory, i thought it was a failure of mine.

Now as Director of a Gender & Women's Studies program even more immersed in the field, I lean into that "struggle" as itself being the point.

Everything about this entire saga is and has been incredibly infuriating, and also very triggering. I was removed from a teaching position b/c right-wingers didn't like my social media posts back in 2020. The landscape is worse now.
