In May 2022 I was invited to testify to the House Oversight Committee about the perils of Florida’s “Don’t Say LGBTQ+” law (HB1557). I will always fight for the rights of our queer and trans youth. Catch my testimony at the 1:01:22 mark 👇

As has been made clear before, the claim that everyone at Alligator Alcatraz has final orders of removals is just a straight up lie, point blank.
Edgar, a #DACA recipient who was unjustly imprisoned at the Everglades detention camp, tried to tell mass deportation agents that he has active protections.

"They (ICE) said DACA was canceled [my note: not true], that I would stand no chance in stay in the country.”

Some "Alligator Alcatraz" detainees are DACA recipients and have no criminal history, despite Trump's "worst of the worst" claims
Some "Alligator Alcatraz" detainees are among the more than half a million recipients of the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals policy, or DACA.

Behold the private citizen turned Heritage Foundation martyr: Kim Davis. Four marriages. One jail stint. Hundreds of thousands owed for trampling rights. Out of office since 2019, still clawing to void your marriage — a trailer-park tyrant with a cross and a grudge.

I'm no consultant, but I think it's a losing strategy for Dems to appeal to the "reasonable concerns" of voters who can be won over with this kind of gutter level transphobia and homophobia.

Republicans are reprising a key attack line from last year’s presidential race for elections this year and next – betting that anti-trans messaging will help them counter Democrats running on GOP-led cuts to Medicaid and other parts of Trump’s policy megabill.

Shortly after former North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper announced his plans to run for Senate, a group backing Republicans released an ad with an echo of last year’s presidential campaign.

A video arguing that women shouldn’t be able to vote was just shared by Trump’s Secretary of Defense, the guy in charge of our whole military.

And Democratic Party leaders still can’t stand up to this administration?! Our rights are on the line and all our party leaders offer us is silence.

It wasn’t that long ago that Florida was chiefly known for 2 things: 1. the place of choice for retired folk, and 2. one of the favourite, possibly biggest tourist destination in the U.S. Now…it’s all about shackles, misery and inhumane treatment.

This is our Holocaust. Our Cambodian killing fields. Our Balkans. Our Rwandan genocide.

We are doing this and history will never forgive us.

On his first day in office, Florida’s new Commissioner of Education went on a new attack against LGBTQ+ students. We strongly reject his bigoted tropes and call on the entire State Department of Education and Board of Education to do better when it comes to our most vulnerable students.

almost all of this comes from tactics honed in repro, but having watched this stuff develop and metastasize in state legislatures i'm convinced that this particular genre of inverted policyfucking is directly downstream of specifically sb8's legally inexplicable success
A GOP House Appropriations bill would ban the Justice Department from suing states that ban gender-affirming care and restrict trans athletes’ participation in sports

It specifically says that federal funds cannot be used to challenge anti-trans laws

Would like to point out that all of these ppl can fuck themselves in the most acrobatic way possible bc my LGBTQ kids will continue to live & thrive under your cruelty 🖕

Now, he's doing the same to bisexual people.

We live in a nation where I am now sending out alerts about what the U.S. attorney general is doing in our name.

It’s a lot to sit with.

It’s going to get a lot darker before it starts getting lighter, but I will keep doing what I do. And, it will get lighter again.
ALERT: Attorney General Pam Bondi is apparently threatening some of those providing medical care to their minor transgender patients.

If you receive one of these subpoenas, please reach out, have your lawyer do so, or send me a copy. My email is in bio, as is my Signal.

Genuine question: what ideas do people have for real theories of change to fight surveillance in this moment.

Like, it's not like you can run a "tell Palantir to stop being Palantir" campaign or a "Tell ICE to stop being fucking fascists" campaign.

What is actionable, winnable? Where do we focus?

The free state of Florida was planning to remove our rainbow crosswalks before the Trump admin even sent the letters out.

This FDOT memo is dated 6/30 (they are obsessed with pulling shit like this during Pride Month). The Trump administration didn’t send its letters to all 50 govs til 7/1.
