Climate reporters are some of the kindest, most selfless, and most hardworking people around.

We need MORE of their work, not less. I'm grateful to everyone who has read and subscribed to support any kind of climate coverage over the years, ours or another newsroom's. Thanks for not turning away.

Everyone needs to hear this.
Highlighting the speaker who stood in front of the Surprise mayor and told him to consider what the Mayor of Ohrdruf must’ve thought before he died by suicide: “He might have thought ‘how is this my fault I had no jurisdiction over this’ maybe he said ‘this site was not subject to local zoning.’”

A reminder!

George Lakoff came up with the 'truth sandwich' concept during Trump's first term. It's not magic but it's good basic information hygiene and should be the default when fighting against bullshit

This cannot be something a civilian law enforcement agent is allowed to wear in the US — and an agency that has a culture that tolerates this cannot be saved.
Fucking surreal that people dressed like this and carrying assault rifles are permitted to kidnap people off our streets

Nothing is more important to our American Jewish institutions than antisemitism. Nothing.

Not Torah
Not Jewish culture
Not tzedakah
Not gemilut chasadim
Not Israeli lives
Not Palestinian lives (of course)
Not American lives

Just antisemitism, and policing its boundaries.

To hell with it.

🎶 corn is a shitty solar panel 🎵
Next time someone asks you about energy and land use, maybe remind them that the ~35 million acres that currently grow corn for ethanol in the US could produce ~15 PWh per year of electricity from solar photovoltaics. That's ~3.5 times more than *total annual generation from all US power plants*.

read online that someone set-up a premium rate phone number where callers get charged $3.99/ min. then they posted flyers in their neighborhood that said "call this number to report illegal aliens," but the number just puts them on hold with music. so far, they've made $17,000

Can't be exaggerated: every bully believes themselves a victim. Even Hitler! Even US slave owners!

It's part of the psychology. There is no amount of power or privilege that can ameliorate it.
so I'm about halfway through my re-read of "the rise and fall of the third reich," world war 2 is about to kick off, and one notable thing is how many times hitler would start off speeches and meetings talking about how badly he/germany had been treated, usually by countries he planned on crushing

So about a year ago, I had this piece about TerraVis and their no-defrost heat pump (big promises!)

They continue to exist, have secured a mfg partner, and are claiming they can run to -50ºC/-57ºF. Aiming for certification later this year, so hopefully we find out if they are for real soon.

That's one hell of a set of promises for a heat pump.

Bump it up to $20B and create a company that hires 200k progressive expats who all have to live in Wyoming for one month before moving abroad (where you vote in the last state you resided in). For $20B you can pay them all $100k salaries for a year. That's 2 Senate seats and 1 in the House.
