Just back from the cinema, seeing 'H is for Hawk'. A really fine adaptation of Helen MacDonald's book, with superb performances (as ever) from Claire Foy and Brendan Gleeson. Do go and see it if you can.

I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.

“Women as bishops fit with scripture and our tradition, but same-sex unions cross a line.”

The thing about conservatives is the goal posts continually shift. They certainly did NOT see women in leadership as “consistent with scripture”. They just know they’ve lost that battle.

Looking at the names of those defecting from the Tories to Reform, I am almost starting to believe that the Conservative Party could become electable again.
BREAKING: Suella Braverman, the former Conservative home secretary, becomes latest Tory MP to defect to Reform UK. “I feel like I’ve come home,” she tells rally.

There is nothing calculated to make me switch off Radio 3 more quickly than when they start playing Gilbert & Sullivan. Just no. Don't do it.

Worth remembering when looking at the horrific scenes in the US right now that both Reform and the Tories have pledged to bring in ICE-style organisations to the UK if they win power

Well, the CofE has issued another virtual slap to LGBTQI+ people, but claims to 'bitterly regret' the spiritual hell they're continuing to dish out. After more than a decade of promising a good path to love and acceptance, & 'listening' to lots of people. No listening at all, it turns out.
A deeply depressing (if not unexpected) statement and outcome. I hope General Synod will now pass a vote of no confidence in the House of Bishops. #cofepeeps #synod #churchofengland

Voting on #Strictly could do with being more transparent, but I am pretty sure Thomas Skinner left the show early because he was (a) a terrible dancer and (b) hugely dislikeable.

An excellent piece, itself very clear, and very fair.
Me, in The Guardian today:

"This is a moment that requires bravery in standing up for what is right. Organisations that value trans people should know not just that the law is on their side – but so, also, are many people who will step up to defend them if they have the courage to take a stand."
The WI and Girlguiding have been pressured to exclude trans women – yet the law is clear as mud | Jess O’Thomson
Since the supreme court decision, organisations have faced lobbying and legal threats. But trans people are protected by discrimination law too, says Jess O’Thomson of the Good Law Project

You'd never know it from these headlines that she lost all her claims on the actual substance of the case, claiming that trans people must be banned from bathrooms.

I can't help but feel that this World Cup draw show would be improved by having Sam Fox and Mick Fleetwood to present it.

The whole "We wanted to be inclusive, but our lawyers told us we can't be" does seem horribly similar to the stuff that keeps coming out of the House of Bishops in the C of E. Yes, organisations need to act lawfully, but that doesn't mean being held back by unnamed and unaccountable advisors.
For both the WI and the Guides to be backed into a legal corner where they have to do what they really do not want to do is... hideous. Really hideous.
The Women's Institute has been forced into excluding trans women too
"Not doing so would leave us at risk of costly legal challenge and potential regulatory action from the Charity Commission. We have a public duty to ensure our charity is not in breach of the law."

As a Christian, and until recently a minister in the area where it is being built, there are so many reasons why I oppose this project. The waste of money is actually very low down on that list of reasons.
The construction of the Eternal Wall of Answered Prayer has begun!

A ground breaking ceremony was recently held at Coleshill in the West Midlands. When it's finished, it will be the largest Christian landmark in the UK

Shocked at watching MOTD2. The coverage of the Brentford v Newcastle match was clearly edited, and gave the impression that Brentford won 3-1. Typical BBC bias.
