In a study following 23 million people age 18-59 (pretty young) for 4 years…despite the fact that the ones who got the COVID vaccine were overall older and sicker at baseline, they not only had 74% lower risk of dying from COVID than the unvaccinated but 25% lower risk of dying from any other cause!

Some HEPA units that filter classroom air are loud, but SO necessary to clean the air to help prevent airborne pathogen spread.
We turned this issue into a class project building PC fan #CRboxes to help filter the air in our classrooms.
Students need to learn how to measure air quality & clean it🙌

This is a post from 5 months ago, when I saw BA.3.2.1 in Raj’s tracker for California.

I show this simply to point out that from all of the great experts tracking Covid variants out there - it is quite easy to monitor and predict emerging lineages.

VRBPAC simply refuses to listen to the experts
Wow would you look at that.

2 sequences of BA.3.2.1 detected in California, according to Raj’s tracker.

2 nickels is not a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice (ifykyk).

If that starts to take off it will be a huge mutational jump.

We're half a decade into studies finding that improving airflow in classrooms will reduce disease transmission enormously, and that bleaching surfaces etc. does very little. And yet nothing changes. Waves of flu and colds wash over schools, and the schools pretend it's an act of God.

Engagement on our updates re: ICE kidnappings/fed siege of Los Angeles is significantly lower on Bluesky compared to Twitter. Do ppl on here not care about LA anymore? Are feeds being taken over by liberal commentators? What's going on?

Community members on the ground can't do it all. We need help.
The feds are escalating in Los Angeles. We've seen record high kidnappings and our communities are under attack. The media focus on LA has died down so electeds don't feel the need to even feign opposition.

People are out here fighting. We need all of us. Join the struggle. Defend your neighbors.

ICE has been raiding my neighborhood and surrounding ones for the last couple of weeks now. They commandeered my local church (against the pastor's will) for a staging site and raided supermarkets, parks, Goodwills, bus stops, you name it.

The national media's been silent. So has @mayor.lacity.gov.

So I try not to give too many gory details about life with long covid, but I also think it’s important to give a clear picture of what can happen to anyone.

Over the last yearish, I’ve become allergic to more than 70 foods. Today I lost soy. I’m not how long I can keep eating at all.

I think a lot about the chance we had at the start of COVID to finally become a more compassionate, collectivist nation, and how profoundly we were failed not only by the sociopathic greed of the ruling class but by each other.

It doesn’t mean we won’t get there, but the lost opportunity haunts me.
Remember how just a few years ago during the worst of the pandemic when we saw how the govt can actually do big things and saw that our collective health & well-being are intertwined, and then corporations got mad that they lost a modicum of power and helped fund a backlash of amnesia and fascism?

Folks if you usually do end-of-year/holiday charity giving, consider moving it up to the beginning of November instead and hit up however many local food pantries you can afford to give to. (Check if you or a spouse/partner's employer does charity matching, too.)
In short, we do not know exactly what will happen with November SNAP benefits if the shutdown continues, but we do know there will not be enough money available to fully fund everyone's EBT card.

I know two people who got long covid from infections during doctor appointments where they couldn't easily mask (an MRI and an ENT exam). this is a very real risk.

And before anyone says anything - yes, there are MRI-safe respirators, most people don't know about them or have access to them.
Well fitting masks work very well, but my friend and his wife got Covid at a doctor’s appointment and it caused long term health problems for my friend. If people in the waiting room and clinic masked and used air filters, this wouldn’t happen. I think it’s wrong to get sick seeking medical care.
