This is your daily reminder that EOs aren't laws. They are guidance to agencies suggesting how they should interpret existing law.

There is no world in which the great orange menace can decree a Voter-ID mandate.
King Trump said today he wants voter-ID laws implemented for the 2026 midterm elections, even though legislation mandating them appears DOA in the Senate.

Now, it appears he will intervene in this year’s midterms on his own by issuing an Executive Order to help facilitate voter-ID implementation.
Trump says he will issue executive order to get voter-ID requirements before midterms
President Donald Trump proclaims that he will find a way to implement national voter-ID requirements by November's elections.

And that's just the times when someone had the means to file a suit.

As has been the case from the start of this admin, unless someone is going to enforce the law, they are going to ignore it.

Combine making passports hard to get with the Save Act and its voter suppression on steroids.

Sinister ploy is exactly the right description.

Relieved both my Senators are a no on this wretched attempt to undermine our democracy.
The Republican SAVE Act is a sinister ploy to deny millions of Americans their right to vote.

I’m a HELL NO.

Oldest selfie on your phone.

Not a selfie* but a good pic - Sci-Fiving Neil DeGrasse Tyson at a VIP post show event. Oct 2015.

*I don't do selfies. I suck at it, plus I am an absolute Chandler if I pose. The majority of selfies on my phone are my husband taking a picture of us with my phone.

It's amazing the almost complete coherence between eugenicists and pedophiles, "longevity" dipshits and pedophiles, and, oh yeah, the billionaire class actively pushing AI for its worst uses and pedophiles.

It's almost like it's pedophiles all the way down.
I parsed through some of the emails in the Epstein files, and it’s very clear that Epstein was a eugenicist weirdo. Something he very much had in common with the billionaire class à la Elon Musk, Peter Thiel and Donald Trump. New for @motherjones.com.

Epstein couldn't stop emailing people about eugenics
In the latest files, the trafficker gives it a Silicon Valley–pilled name: "genetic altruism."

The cruelty of the Trump Regime must never be forgotten.

All this suffering to please a minority of scared racists.
Super Bowl viewers Sunday speculated that 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos appeared in the halftime show. In fact, he has been in hiding with his family.

“He can’t sleep well at night. He wakes up three or four times a night screaming, ‘Daddy, Daddy,’” Liam's father Adrian Conejo Arias, said.
‘He’s not the same’: Father of Liam Conejo Ramos says 5-year-old continues to suffer
Some people thought they say the 5-year-old during the Super Bowl halftime show. But Liam is still in hiding with his family, after he and his father were detained and then released from a Texas deten...

Someday the Smithsonian will have a display of these letters. Perhaps in a exhibit called "The Years of Shame."
1/ ProPublica collected handwritten letters in mid-January from children held at the Dilley Immigration Processing Center, the same facility where 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos was taken.

Hundreds of kids are still detained.

We’ll let the children’s words speak for themselves. 🧵

It's terrible to learn how @opb.org is losing its integrity and adopting corporate media strategies.

We supported OPB. We donated to keep them going. We knew about the union negotiations, but at least believed the journalism being done was driven responsibly.

Goodbye @opb.org.

The Winter Light Festival is such a cool treat - much creativity and interactive fun! It's the dose of multi-colored vibrancy we all need in the midst of a so often gray season.

It's really disappointing how many prominent voices - well-established and probably financially able - haven't moved.

Exactly this.

Not one of the GOP bother to apologize, express regret, or offer to help fix the situation they created.
When Republican lawmakers decide not to seek re-election and only then break bad on Trump, it tells us that GOP politicians have known all along that Trump is corrupt and dangerous but are happy to screw the country for a slice of the loot.

this is why reforms and investigations alone aren't enough! ICE is continuing to terrorize Americans every day.

This is beyond politics and re-election. It's about humanity. Schumer and Jeffries need demand a halt to ICE actions.

There's no question ICE is being deployed politically. Especially when they admit it.

Brian Kilmeade from Fox literally just said out loud that ICE pulled out of Maine to protect Susan Collins’ re‑election campaign. I can’t believe he would just admit that.

Someone needs to smack Schumer and Jeffries in the face with this info.
Striking from new Quinnipiac poll:

*Voters prefer path to legalization over deportations for most undocs by 59-34. Among independents it's 61-33

*Majority says Trump on immigration is making America less safe

Again, there's broad rejection of the whole project, not just ICE tactics (see below)

This whole thread is modern day unsung heroes.

All these people putting themselves on the line. They may never have their name on a school or a plaque or a statue, but they are committed to doing what's right.

Inspiring.
Most of the footage you see from ICE observers in Minnesota comes from the core cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul. I talked to observers in the northern suburbs, who say they're taking on the same mission in very different conditions. (1)

Nimby-ism finally has an upside.
No one wants to live next to migrant prisons in the Trump gulag.
Remarkable: Trump's planned migrant prison camps are hitting deep resistance in red areas. In Virginia's partly rural Hanover (+26 Trump) opposition is intense. GOP leaders in other states are opposed.

Voters are rejecting mass deportations big time. 1/

This is not enough @repbonamici.bsky.social, @wyden.senate.gov, @merkley.senate.gov!

We need to halt ICE, et. al., full stop and investigate illegal & unconstitutional actions.

They are breaking the law daily, until there are consequences you can't trust reforms.

We need Noem and Miller gone.
Democrats want commonsense reform for ICE:

End the roving patrols and racial profiling.

Take accountability and abide by the same rules as local police.

Masks need to come off, body cameras need to stay on—no secret police in the United States of America.

Make good trouble.

Here, my local city council formally codified their sanctuary status. It formalizes certain non-cooperation with immigration for city staff and agencies, makes certain areas off limits for immigration and more.
