"We probably need some kind of redesign or to rethink how our transportation needs are being met. And we need to create safe infrastructure for scooters and bikes. There has to be a real holistic approach to transportation."

A couple years ago, @henrygrabar.bsky.social wrote about the premium most Americans are willing to pay to live in walkable neighborhoods.

It was, at the time, 35-40% -- so on a half million dollar house, a couple hundred grand.

This is vitally important. 🧵
This open house on Milwaukee Ave is a zoo. There is a huge demand for folks to live on pedestrian/bike only streets!!!

Despite common assumptions, traveling by bus, subway or train is far safer than driving. How can transit agencies correct misinformation about the real risks?

According to the City of Paris, in the last 10 years 150K trees have been planted & 45ha of parks created in the already hot city, all intended to not only improve quality-of-life today, but also help the city adapt to & manage summer heatwaves of 50℃ (122F) by 2050.

Just the start.

No one who is supporting Trump is ever going to be convinced by this shit.

The only convincing needed here is for those of us who are horrified to pull ICE away from these innocent people, forcefully and permanently.

No one else is gonna.

There’s a solution for that.
“The United States, with its enormous highways, sprawling suburbs and neglected public transport systems, is one of the most car-dependent countries in the world. But this arrangement of obligatory driving is making many Americans actively unhappy, new research has found.”

This isn’t even true. The family of the speeding driver wouldn’t lose access to the car. They’d lose the ability to *speed* in that car, which would have a speed governor installed. Meanwhile, it’s the families whose loved ones are killed by egregiously reckless drivers who actually lose something.

This is it! You can't game the system as an individual voter. Your first two choices should be your "I'd love for them to be mayor" picks. Next two should be "I'd be okay with them" picks. Last one should be the "It beats the alternative" pick. In other words, just rank in order of preference.
One thing I’d say about ranked choice voting in NYC is that you don’t have to do complex calculations of viability. You should rank in order of *who you want to be mayor* and if you *don’t* want someone to be mayor, you shouldn’t rank them!
