the thing I love about Zohran’s campaign is that instead of “this place fucking sucks and I alone can fix it” his message is “being a New Yorker rules, we live in the best city in the world, let’s make it even better together”

show some damn pride in the places you want to govern

The mass starvation & killing of Palestinians in Gaza at the hands of the Israeli gov’t is a chillul hashem, a desecration of God.

Jewish leaders who criticized Zohran Mamdani for three words he doesn’t use should raise their voices loudly here as well.

Gaza is starving. Where are the American Jewish leaders?
A fear of being labelled antisemitic still deters American Jews and Jewish institutions from taking a position that is morally correct.

I’ve heard Mamdani give versions of this line before but it’s worth repeating that his winning strategy was talking to actual human beings who might vote for him, versus some mythical voter democrats are trying to swing from the right who does not exist.

Genetic material shed by tumors can be detected in the bloodstream three years before cancer diagnosis, according to a study led by investigators at Johns Hopkins University.

That study was made possible with federal funding. Now, many studies like this are canceled. hub.jhu.edu/2025/06/04/...
Cancers can be detected in bloodstream three years prior to diagnosis
Detection of cancer before a clinical diagnosis could give patients and caregivers more time for intervention and may lead to better outcomes because tumors are more likely to be curable

I wrote about DOGE's planned SSA "modernization" for MSNBC.

"It’s like cooking a Thanksgiving turkey in 20 minutes by putting it in a blast furnace, or choosing to get measles instead of getting vaccinated against it: it sounds most convincing to the layperson who asks the fewest questions."
Opinion | DOGE’s new plan to overhaul the Social Security Administration is doomed to fail
Modernizing the SSA’s technical infrastructure is not a novel idea – and such modernizations have a poor track record.

it's really important to understand what the US government -- our government -- is saying about their power to put any American in a concentration camp forever **by mistake**
Read this carefully. The DOJ's argument here is that if somebody grabs literally any person and tells a foreign govt to throw them in prison, there's nothing a court can do to get them back once they've been handed off.

This isn't an Alien Enemies Act argument. It has fuck all to do with aliens.
Oh my god. They deported a man who an immigration judge had declared was "more likely than not" to face persecution in El Salvador ... to El Salvador, during the big March 15 AEA flights!

They outright admit it! Yet the Trump admin's response to a court is basically "oops, well, no take backsies."

Appeasement feels like a demoralizing, soul-sucking, harm-increasing response, & poor strategy as well. I don’t see an appeasement-based path out for Columbia.

What an opportunity for a strong, wealthy, leadership-oriented institution to publicly articulate, affirm & recommit to mission & values.

Adams must be removed. The city cannot sustain being governed for nearly a year by a Mayor who is being coerced by Trump admin in order to escape charges.

This corruption poses a real threat to the people of the city. He should have resigned a while ago, but will not. So it’s time for him to go.

I’m not a big fan of state-level removals of local officials (see: Florida).

But I liked the idea someone on here suggested: have the City Council pass some sort of no-confidence vote, and have them ask Hochul to remove.

Create a norm of non-unilateral state action, based on local demands.
once again, kathy hochul could literally oust him tonight. she has that legal right
Eric Adams pretty much agreed to sidestep NY sanctuary protections, & make his city's immigrant residents more vulnerable to iCE, in pursuit of naked personal gain & a shield from corruption charges.

Contact Gov Hochul and tell her to remove Adams from office. Call your state legislator too.
