What I know for sure is if registered NDIS providers succeed in getting higher rates for complex care, they won’t pass the profit on to the workers who provide the care or use it to ensure better quality of care for clients
this interview, and the subsequent reporting around it, was absolutely infuriating. any other sector's big business lobby wouldn't get this kind of uncritical, uninformed, wildly inaccurate coverage, yet disabled peoples' essential services do [little 🧵]

A market failure is happening now in the National Disability Insurance Scheme, with many not-for-profit providers heading to insolvency.

There was an entire ad campaign about how the Orange Demon asked why his nephew didn’t let his son die and described disabled people as burdens and takers. We tried REALLY HARD to make this not a surprise.

And yet!
I get a bit irritated when I see “now they’re coming after disabled people?!” like we didn’t all see that clip in 2015.

They have ALWAYS been coming after disabled people. They use us to stoke fear, to delegitimize the agency of our own and other groups, as scapegoats, as bellwethers, as excuses.

I will be the first to admit I couldn’t understand why anyone would oppose Assisted Dying… and then I became disabled and had it “offered” to me.

It’s not compassionate when there’s coercion.

It’s not dignified when it’s offered in lieu of care.

Listen to disabled people.

So ... a dangerous abuser accuses his partner or ex-partner of a violent crime (this is common) & get the cops to charge her, usual delays until it's dropped/heard and now the govt will cut off the accused's entitlements, making her - & her children - wholly dependent on her abuser? Get out of it.
