Too many liberals have a tendency to confuse their priorities between legalism and justice, as the latest internal Lib Dem row about transgender representation illusatrates

I was genuinely surprised that the Lib Dems decided to pull the pin out of this grenade when even the EHRC hasn't changed its guidance to political parties, and yet here we are www.theliberati.net/quaequamblog...

the fun thing about the BBC story is that I can't actually read about it for more than couple of minutes at a time because it makes me feel too insane :)
The worst you can accuse Panorama of doing is making a misleading edit – and I’d dispute that! – to make *a point that was true*.
The programme aired without anyone seeing any issues with the edit. It was on iPlayer for a year without complaints. Donald Trump *did* incite Jan 6th.

Tory culture spox demanding the BBC "grovel" to Trump is baffling. Who is this supposed to chime with?
Just a bizarre line that no one who doesn't use X would ever think.

You may have missed this gem yesterday. From which we learn that:
1. Betting shops are really good for the mental health of isolated people.
2. Most drug-takers are not a problem.
3. Kids put tuppence in slot machines in the hope of getting rich.
4. Farage probably has a gambling industry donor.

How is it that healthcare decisions for trans people are influenced so heavily by cis people *with absolutely no relevant expertise, training or experience*?
In no other area of healthcare would this be tolerated. FOR GOOD REASON.

This kind of influence by a political appointee of the Johnson government, with a strong partisan record and reputation, appeared a Faustian pact imposed on the BBC by the government of the day. Its striking that this attempt continued after a change of government

All this talk about Predator Badlands being woke and not like proper 80s action sci-fi films, but one of the films it reminded me most of was Enemy Mine (1985) in which an explicitly male-coded alien gets pregnant and raises a family with Dennis Quaid.

It’s remarkable how unspecial Disney animated movies feel these days; even that cow film in the 2000s seemed to get more buzz than Zootropolis* 2, and I say that as someone who liked Zootropolis* 1
* I don’t know why they call Zootopia that in the UK either I’m afraid.

Never has the phrase “history repeats, the first time as tragedy the second time as farce” felt so apt.

Over the last 10 months, the federal government has cracked down on political expression with a persistence and viciousness reminiscent of some of the darkest periods of U.S. history. Welcome to the Third Red Scare.
