Still thinking about this part of the conversation, showing a poster by @tomflood.bsky.social next to two by Klaus Staeck that I remember from my childhood.
Lots of parallels between discussions in Germany (and other places in Europe) back then and Canada (and the US) 30 to 40 years later.

An hour in, it hit me: I made that logo. 3 years ago with @mihai-cirstea.bsky.social and a few others giving me live feedback.

Did I believe we’d have accomplished everything we have? Yes. Ending traffic violence is an idea that’s time has come.

I just thought we’d have gotten a better logo, too.
Gotta love a humongous screen.

My biggest “wish I said that” was live on CBC about a 12-year-old killed by a driver that morning. A woman emailed in about cyclists needing to wear reflective clothing.

I don’t have a clever line, I just really wish I could have screamed WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU YOU FUCKING EVIL MONSTER!

Whoa! Due to high demand, our bookseller at our Vancouver show sold out of books. Our apologies to folks who wanted one but didn't get one. More will be available at Pulp Fiction Books, so head over there to pick up Life After Cars. And thank you to everyone who came tonight! What a great city.

Happy to join @thewaroncars.bsky.social and happy my City Councillor @lucymaloney.bsky.social was up on stage too.

Over the past few years, I've frequently criticized Brian Montague for living in North Vancouver. Today I'd like to formally issue an apology.

It turns out he actually lives in Kelowna.

This is a pretty hilarious take given that Sim didn't engage with the City or First Nations at all when he decided to spontaneously get rid of the park board over a personal upset

Halloween is the one night of the year kids get to take over the neighbourhood - but when it comes to the risk of being hit by drivers, it's also by far the most dangerous.

@lucymaloney.bsky.social has a motion to fix this! Please read & email council (and call if you can) with your support!
Take Action: Supporting “Safe Streets for Trick or Treats”

Large turnout today in support of traffic calming on 16th. People shouldn't fear for their safety in their own neighbourhood. Now it's time for the city to act.

Thank you @lucymaloney.bsky.social and @seanorr.bsky.social for attending and speaking in support.

In light of this horrific incident, and years of residents demanding change with no action from the city, we're helping support a "stroll in" protest tomorrow.

Meet at 16th and Willow at 1pm (maybe with an umbrella ☔) and let's tell the city that it's time to make our streets safe.

What if Macklin McCall introduced a private members bill requiring 30km/hr speed limits or suspending licenses for excessive or repeat speeding offences? Would be an easy way to demonstrate his commitment to safety. That way nobody could accuse him of crassly using safety to advance political ends.
Conservative MLA Macklin McCall: "What we have before us is a bill that removes a proven safeguard and replaces it with little more than the hope that a 12-month waiting period and an absence of tickets will somehow guarantee competence." (1/2)

We know speeding is incredibly dangerous and that virtually every driver (including me) is guilty of it.

Let’s break with the past.
-suspend drivers for excessive or repeat speeding
-lower speed limits to what is actually safe
-automate enforcement with speed cameras anywhere there are kids
This story is heartbreaking.
