Authoritarianism can only succeed when democracy fails to deliver for working people.

Authoritarian parties can only succeed when the pro-democracy parties fail to fight for working people.

We need a new democracy and a new party system which can represent working people.

Thanks to the Trump admin, the IRS’s FREE Direct File tool will not be available next tax season.

This tool lets Americans file taxes without paying an expensive service.

This is just another way that Trump is helping big corporations profit by screwing over working people.

In response to this claim that the "strategy didn't work."

The people were on our side. We were building momentum to help save our democracy. We could have won - the premium increase notices were just starting.

And giving in now will embolden him. Things will likely get worse.

Providence Ward 3 Councilor @sueanderbois.bsky.social's entry into the LG race opens up a third City Council seat next year. (Wards 5 and 11 have term-limited councilors.)

One person who *won't* be running is School Board member @coreyjonespvd.bsky.social, who narrowly lost to AnderBois in 2022.

Great job, @schumer.senate.gov. You've changed the story from "GOP hurting millions of Americans to please unpopular, failing, delusional despot who's destroying his party" to "Dems are too weak and divided in the face of Trump's strength to take a stand and protect Americans"

Unfortunately still true bsky.app/profile/adam...
American politics makes a lot more sense when you realize that the GOP is afraid of pissing off the GOP base, and the Dems are afraid of pissing off the GOP base, but neither party is afraid of pissing off the Dem base.

seems to me that those democrats inclined not to fight perceive themselves as living through a somewhat ordinary cycle of presidential overreach and backlash and not something much more significant and dangerous

I was saying to a non-media-industry friend the other day:

IMO, the media story of Trump 1.0 was a lot of outlets/institutions failing to rise to the challenge of covering Trump properly.

The story of Trump 2.0 is that large swaths of the news media are now captured or compromised.

This is a piece of the Mamdani campaign that I think is really underdiscussed—that in a moment of terror and despair, his premise is that standing up against fascism can be joyous.
My wife is Chilean and there are lots of parallels to the referendum on Pinochet where he was defeated. The pro-Pinochet ads were doom and gloom. The anti were upbeat and sunny. There was a movie about it: youtu.be/lt8VayTqQhQ?...

When I moved to Providence in 2016, my rent was $750 for an attic one bedroom and that was HIGH. Same spot is more than double now.
who creates the lively art and music scenes if the rent is too high? who makes cultural life? who serves you food or washes your dishes? who creates the fancy little restaurants that draw you to urban living? affordable housing is at the heart of what makes city life worthwhile.

If @governor.ny.gov can get Amtrak to cap fares at $99 each way for trips between NYC & Albany (starting spring 2026), @govdanmckee.bsky.social should do the same for Amtrak service between Providence & Westerly!

Especially now that RIPTA’s express bus service to Westerly has been severely reduced!
We need RIDOT to back the CTrail Shore Line East extension to Westerly and ideally Wickford Junction to connect with the MBTA and close Rhode Island’s commuter rail gap! 🚆

RI should also work with Amtrak to subsidize service between Providence and Westerly! Fares can be less expensive!!

This insane intersection in Providence is a pedestrian nightmare: Wickenden St. between S. Water St. & S. Main St.

Counted three drivers who didn’t yield to me as I crossed this street. Don’t get me started with the amount of time the pedestrian signal provides for crossing: 15 SECONDS OF HELL. 😭
