These are times that feel rife with mourning, for what was and what might be. I have a friend who shared this photo ~12 yrs ago. She had stacked some artichokes on a plate as a decorative centerpiece. Over time they shriveled and blackened into dried husks, looking lifeless and gray…

Scrolling through IG earlier, I came across this (Drop a Pin Show) episode. The question was, “What country is highlighted in red?” Answers came swiftly… countries, continents, cities, none of them correct. I knew the highlighted country in about half a second. Any guesses? Hint: It’s not Istanbul.😉

It was fortunate that we lived very close to what we called “The River”, where we went exploring, fishing, etc. Parts of the river were also adjacent to fruit orchards, so naturally we’d borrow a few ripened fruits, but just a few.😉 A lot of carefree times all things considered.

We never had real vacations, maybe an over-night stay in San Francisco once a year and visiting a museum. I never saw snow until I was 21. Today, my siblings esp. are world travelers, have no debts, no mortgages, and fairly good health for all being septuagenarians.

Growing up, for my hard-working immigrant parents and family of 7, camp wasn’t even a thought. Summers were for working, usually in the fields (onions, berries, apricots, green beans, etc.). We’d fit in summer school if time allowed. I remember my siblings and I decided we were lower middle class.🤷♂️

This is not a country that can safely host international events like the World Cup.

The Montreal Canadiens are playing the Minnesota Wild in Minneapolis tonight. The players have been recommended to stay in/eat at the hotel, take the team bus to the arena, and carry passports.
