Hurting people is easy. It's lazy. Anyone can do it with the right tools and the wrong morals.

Protecting people is hard. It takes restraint and courage and empathy. They will never have that. So they can never win, in the end. Minneapolis will win.

The idea that we're drawing our resolve from each other, that we are willing to put ourselves in harm's way to protect our neighbors, even ones we do not know, it's unthinkable to them.

They don't understand that real strength doesn't come from HURTING PEOPLE but from PROTECTING THEM.

And I know, I hear you read to shout, 'but ACAB!' and I get it.

But you, the blue-team protestor, do not need the cops to be heroes. It'd be nice, but you don't need it.

The *regime* needs them to be villains. You just need them to either 1) just do their jobs or 2) decide to be somewhere else.

The reason why they're still pressing ahead is not because they have some secret plan, but the pretty classic Umberto Eco fascist-folly - because of their ideology they are "constitutionally incapable of objectively evaluating the force of the enemy."

Minnesota National Guard members have arrived at a federal building and were directed to distribute donuts, coffee, and hot chocolate to anti-ICE protesters. Guard members were issued reflective vests so they would not be mistaken for federal agents.

As we grieve for Alex Pretti and Renee Good in MN, please do not forget Victor Manuel Diaz, who died in ICE custody after being taken from here. And all others who have died in their custody.
36-year-old Nicaraguan national Victor Manuel Diaz died in ICE custody on Jan. 14 at Camp East Montana in El Paso.

The Texas Nicaraguan Community on FB reports that his mom last heard from him on Jan. 6, when he told her he was planning to go to Minneapolis to start work in a restaurant. 1/3

The TACO cycle:

Markets want to price in TACO. But TACO only works if Trump sees stocks tank.

So we get a loop: Trump does things → nothing happens (markets already priced in TACO) → that emboldens him to do more → until markets start to think he might not TACO → stocks fall → TACO is restored.

Important video. These guys are rattled. They can't go anywhere, they can't get anything done. They killed someone and it just got worse. They don't have any other intellectual or law-enforcement tools. They don't know what to do.

The logic of this administration, since the beginning, has been the logic of right-wing grievance media, which is to say that they only response they can imagine to anything is to keep ratcheting up the rhetoric, to keep escalating the claims, to never, ever, ever back down or acknowledge a mistake.
Extremely uneasy with the messaging the administration is using here. Vance also claims the murderer as "absolute immunity." Even by their standards, these claims are alarming.
Vance: "She was trying to ram this guy with her car, he shot back, he defended himself, he's already been seriously wounded in operations before. And everybody that is repeating the lie that this is some innocent woman who was out for a drive in Minneapolis, you should be ashamed of yourselves"

Unless proven otherwise, the assumption should be that the news media was gambling on polymarket with this information. There is no legitimate reason they wouldn't have gotten their scoop otherwise

🟡 NEW: The New York Times and Washington Post learned of a secret US raid on Venezuela soon before it was scheduled to begin Friday night — but held off publishing what they knew to avoid endangering US troops.

There's moderates like Newsom who absolutely do suck but seem to understand that power exists and is important, and then there's moderates like Manchin that genuinely seem to have rocks in place of the space between their ears, unfortunately, almost every elected moderate is in the latter category
I think tonight shows why “moderate to win elections” is a real risk

the big divide in the Dem caucus, as many have noted, has been less moderate vs progressive than fight versus don’t fight

but it’s not a coincidence that basically everyone in the “don’t fight” camp is a moderate

Maggie Hassan is really underhated given her behavior in this congress. she and Shaheen have almost as bad a record as Fetterman, and they are neither from a trump state nor do they have serious brain damage
