Thanks for namechecking @inclusivenew.bsky.social's INN the Arts Group's coproduced good practice framework for safety from airborne infection in the arts (DM for a copy). I certainly can't take all the credit! Looking forward to Serina's play - remarkable for itself modelling good practice.
“In the UK, advocacy for clean air in live performance has been growing. Dr. Sally Witcher OBE @salwitcher.bsky.social founder of INN the Arts (“Indoor Safety in the Arts”), has developed a framework of best practices aimed at reducing airborne infection risk in theatres and venues.“

Some good news: ME/CFS is explicitly mentioned in the new NIAID vision. 👇

Hopefully, this will lead to more funding opportunities for ME/FS research in the US.
1) From the new NIAID vision:

"The NIAID will foster research to better understand long-term post-infectious and non-infectious inflammatory syndromes, such as long COVID, chronic Lyme disease, myalgic encephalitis/chronic fatigue syndrome, and adverse events after vaccination"

Individuals with long COVID neurocognitive symptoms showed a significant increase in blood tau protein, a biomarker linked to neurodegenerative diseases, compared to pre-infection levels. doi.org/hbjtjr
Increased levels of Alzheimer's-linked protein found in some with long COVID
A study of 227 individuals who experienced neurocognitive difficulties post COVID-19 infection—such as headaches, vertigo, balance dysregulation, changes in taste/smell, and brain fog—displayed a significant increase in their blood plasma of a crucial protein called tau, which is found in nerves and especially in the brain.

1) In a Bulgarian study, 65 ME/CFS and 54 Long Covid patients showed similar immune alterations when compared to healthy controls.

They had lower NK and CD8+ T cells, but increased inflammatory cytokines such as IL-6 and TNF.

There's so much local groups can do to make a difference, even if just a few people. Mask blocs (distributing masks), air libraries (lending HEPA air filters), resources, zines & all kinds happening across the UK. Find out where to start & share your questions & learning too 👇

University of Pennsylvania scientists analyzed blood from long COVID patients and found that virus-specific T cells targeting SARS-CoV-2, EBV, or VZV were highly active in at least 40% of them, suggesting persistent immune activation drives symptoms.

UK vax eligibility is based on fundamentally flawed cost-benefit analysis & total failure to understand the cumulative damage Covid reinfection is doing to our population's health, & how this drives economic damage & benefit costs. It makes no clinical or economic sense. Come and find out more 👇

Excellent news that there's now a Covid positivity map for Scotland! A very useful tool to help predict incoming pressures on local NHS & Local Authority services, for CV people & anyone needing to manage risk. Thanks @skeuomorphology.bsky.social & @publichealthscot.bsky.social for supplying data 🙏
The PCR positivity map is out, and you might notice something a bit different this week.

From now onwards the map includes Scotland, using the same metric: PCR test positivity.

Wondering if that would suggest that vaccination to stimulate the immune system would be a bad idea if the immune system is already over-activated and stressed. Does anyone know anything about the interaction? Is there research on this? @putrinolab.bsky.social @virusesimmunity.bsky.social
