With mercury in retrograde, doing a long thread seems inadvisable, but this is some deeply irresponsible criminal justice reporting. It does the propublica goal to "hold someone accountable", but do they truly understand the system they are critiquing?
Six young Black moms were allegedly killed by suspects who were on probation but not being monitored in person by probation officers because of a warrant out for their arrest.

Their deaths left 12 children without mothers.

Last week, we worked with local orgs to create a food resource map. This map covers a large area and we want to make sure it stays up to date. If there's a resource that's not listed, please let us know! You can find the map and add resources here:

Yes, this includes charges for behaviors like jaywalking or even sitting on a sidewalk – and, evidently, throwing a sandwich.

“Unfortunately, at this moment Donald Trump is the only character who matters in the Republican Party, because you have a rubber-stamp Congress. You have Republicans in both the House and Senate who just do the bidding of Donald Trump.”
There’s a popular and recurring chant that echoed throughout the recent No Kings protests several weeks ago: “This is what democracy looks like.” But on Capitol Hill over the past four weeks, during a protracted government shutdown, Republicans have been displaying the opposite.
Amid Government Shutdown, Republicans Are Showing Us What Autocracy Looks Like
They are anticipating that vast structural changes will ultimately keep them in power, regardless of how they legislate.

Just as a reminder, tax cuts caused this. It doesn't have to be this way.
To comply with Idaho Gov. Brad Little’s directive to permanently extend 3% budget cuts, state agencies are planning to cut $88.7 million next fiscal year.

As part of those extended cuts for fiscal year 2027, Idaho plans to extend 4% Medicaid provider pay rate cuts for another year. #idleg #idpol

Few things: (1) these were hard-to-get items that contribute greatly to people's nutrition; and (2) this is yet again the Trump admin stealing congressionally appropriated money.
For Idaho, the canceled deliveries included cheese, turkey breast, dried cranberries, chicken, and pulled pork. The program is designed to provide nutritious, high-quality USDA foods for low-income residents and support U.S. agriculture markets.

Politicians: we refuse to raise the minimum wage, will not do anything for affordable housing or affordable medical care, and we are trying to gut Obamacare. Why are people still poor??? Have they tried not being poor??
I know you’re a bodybuilder, but use your noggin this time. Nearly half of those who receive food stamps work. Of the rest, most are over 65 or disabled. Wages are too low for tens of millions, and Social Security isn’t enough for many elderly.

So hot take, the phrase "no one is illegal on stolen land" misses the point. It's irrelevant if the land is stolen - Europe harasses migrants like the US, and that is no better. And while nominally expressing support for indigenous sovereignty, it's not often paired with strong indigenous support.

as a note, food banks need money, not canned goods
In one week, food aid is going to run out if the federal government is still shutdown. 1 in 10 Americans will not get paid they rely on in November, like SNAP. Please give to local food banks now, if you are able. Look into local groups that are providing meals and things like diapers. This is bad.
