Finally, last but by no means least, is the video I longed to make with @meowtima.bsky.social, were they still my KA colleague!

Heather plays the narrator, and Kami, Qandeel, and I play three friends who each represent a different grocery shopping tendency.

i believe:

1. we need bureaucrats. no state worthy of sovereignty can function without an army of well trained and well compensated bureaucrats. actually existing socialism with a human face will look like a bureaucrat.

2. the bureaucrats must never be allowed to believe they understand politics

Someone smarter than me: is there a way to leverage bluesky style starter packs or lists in this regard? "i want to earmark fifteen bucks a month, to be distributed among everyone on this list"?

What major practical hurdles stand in the way of that?
whoever figures out a way to bundle independent journalism subscriptions will be a hero
i know that this is an unpopular take, but everyone starting their own newsletter as a revenue stream is not a sustainable model for writing and reporting or for people who love and want to pay for media.

God, I'd forgotten about this. Is this when we first all saw Bovino on television for the first time? Was this his first major public appearance?
When Newsom had his press conference to announce Prop 50, Bovino and BORTAC showed up to harass people outside the venue.

A few weeks later, Prop 50 outperformed Kamala Harris in LA County by 25 points.

yes this is exactly what's going to happen, they're going to yell WE'RE SENDING ICE and then there's going to be high profile video of them pulling someone out of line at an early voting location and half the country is going to go fuck YOU you can't tell ME I can't vote
They're going to fuck this up by doing it at early voting precincts and letting it be a news story for 3 entire weeks before the actual election

there's a lot of people who mock liberals with "what are you going to do, vote harder" and yes actually that is exactly what will happen if you try to intimidate people outside voting places like this! that's how you drive presidential-level turnout from normie libs in a midterm

When i was in high school during the Iraq war, i took an elective called Reading Enrichment, during which we were expected to learn ten new vocabulary words each week. This was a thing i did instead of lunch.

Anyway, you were meant to use each one in a sentence, but i found that restriction dull.
Top 3 Grad School Moments:

1. Prof writes in the margins of my Wordsworth & Nature paper, "Uh, do you know what nature is?"

2. Freud class: I say "Epistemology is a kind of ontology." Prof recoils: "What? No."

3. Melville class: Prof says "inchoate" aloud & I scream, "That's how you say that?!"

Patient: But Doctor, I am Pagliacci...

Doctor: Yeah, Stewart. I'm literally holding your chart. Did you not consider maybe I was doing a confidence-building thing?

Stewart Pagliacci: Oh I didn't think-

Doctor: No, you didn't think, that's your problem. You want me to fix your problems for you.

Also not for nothin, but as an orangetheory class taker, my local gym's membership, sure, is disproportionately women, but they're a real wide range of ages. The one thing they have in common is that they're made of corded steel and 8 to 10 times stronger and more resilient than I am
Of all the things in the history of the world that definitely did not happen - this is the pinnacle.

This is tear gassing protesters just for protesting. There is no threat, and the only danger presented is ICE behaving recklessly. There is no provocation; this is just straight up assault.
Just experienced the most intense tear gassing of my life by federal officers outside the ICE facility in Portland where marchers gathered. There was no fast exit as they indiscriminately threw loads of gas and flash bangs. Children were in the crowd screaming. @oregoncapitalchronicle.com
