I think you're spot-on for Caine; you remember the story about how he bought a house for his mother with the money they gave him for JAWS: THE REVENGE?

"Have you seen Jaws IV? It stinks!"
"I haven't seen it, but I saw the house it bought my mother."

Can I tell you, speaking as a moustache haver: a few years ago i finally got a little tin of wax to brush into my facial hair and it was SO NICE? I kind of had feared it would make me look like snidely whiplash, but it was just, y'know. Conditioner!

That's a fun lane, for sure! I would enjoy that a lot, but I'd equally enjoy being, like, Lord Barbarian Scenechewer.

Nice reel, btw! Aw, you know some folks I know 😍

Something i think the Craig bond movies played with was the idea that Bond could never be happy, that he was kind of a cold husk of a man wrapped in upperclass signifiers.

What's the Vibe of a Kit Sparks Bond? Where would it fall in the spectrum of gleeful camp to deconstruction?

I have been cast as a magical talking cat, numerous kindly dads, and a guidance counselor, so there's probably something comforting about my vocal texture, but i must tell you i am ITCHINGGG to play a villain one of these days

I remember I worked with an actor named Tara who was very good at maintaining elocution when expressing fury, so it was always a great treat for me to write florid THREATS for her character to hiss

There is also a special delight to me in writing for a particular actor's voice, knowing how their timbre will render a line, and crafting language that flatters their speaking style

What is the kernel of what makes that 25% enjoyable for you? What aspects of the films would you spool out into a new series?

They're my brother in law's very favorite thing, so i started watching them all, and supplementing with the podcast KILL JAMES BOND, which means I have a thoroughly ironized hate-love relationship with these films. And it also means i can quote them, but only the bits Nova Kelly thinks are funny

Brace for impact! Where will the dumb money go next, I wonder

But y'know, maybe he can just run for senate, instead.

It's quite a pretty yarn; not necessarily the one I would have chosen, but I'm grateful they pushed me towards a mini-skein instead of the 100g of whatever lurid klein blue merino I was looking at

I bought a darning mushroom (a wooden hemisphere with a socketed handle), some tapestry needles, and a mini-skein of merino wool in a colorway called Whales' Road ("Oh, like the old english hwan-rad!" I said to the bewildered saleslady), AND I learned to use a YARN SWIFT and winder.

I have mostly switched to wool socks for the cold season, and they wear in the heels a lot—and they hole up well before the rest of the sock has reached the end of its service life. Well I say, NO MORE. It is time to reinforce these heels and give myself another year in each of my holed-out socks!

Have you read any of them? Discworld is so daunting if you've never touched any of the books—I recommend starting with the Night Watch ones—but Pratchett was a very fine prose stylist as well as a deeply moral and progressive thinker. A trenchant, hopestruck weirdo, angry in the right ways.
November 9, 2025 at 4:23 AM
This is essentially the Death of Terry Pratchett's Discworld, who speaks EXCLUSIVELY IN ALL-CAPS, because he's not really speaking so much as psychically resonating inside your skull. In the audiobooks, Peter Serafinowicz reads his lines.

NICHOLAS, I SAID I'D GET ROUND TO IT EVENTUALLY, said Death, scratching his bony chin irritably. AND FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE, I WILL HANG THE BLOODY SHELVES, ALL RIGHT? IS THAT WHAT THIS IS ABOUT

He's unexpectedly FUNNY, but yes i completely agree

Like Chatham suggests downthread, it would personally enrich Rick Scott. That's how it's "better"
