As dramatic as it sounds, hearing him purr right now is a constant reminder of what is going on. Having his usual, adorable snorty purr replaced by the sound of this fucking mass is quietly heartbreaking right now. >>

Now for the bittersweet/sad part: A cat's purr is scientifically proven to be one of the most comforting things because of the frequency. And while Sneaks' purr has always been a little wonky, it was what made his quirky little self who he is. It is currently difficult for him to purr, >>

Sneakers' purr has always been a little odd, almost a bit snorty, all his life. His meow has always been a cross between Chewbacca and a rusty door hinge. It makes me wonder if there's always been an issue there that is only just escalating now & if that issue has always been present in some way, >>

When he purrs, he stops and make a noise that was more or less him clearing or attempting to clear his throat. I showed it to the specialist, & when she called yesterday one of the things she said was that the video prompted them to look closely at his vocal tract for clues. >>

The thing that may have tipped off our regular vet that this could be something serious after a few months of antibiotics not working was a video I showed her of Sneakers purring. At some point in the last couple months it changed to a weird sound akin to one of those bird whistles with water in it.

A bit of a braindump, a bit sad, so if you want/need to skip this thread please do so.

So we're going to have a biopsy taken of the mass in Sneaks' throat. There's a decent chance it's malignant, but also a chance it's not. I'm choosing to be hopeful until I know otherwise for my own sanity but also preparing as best I can for the worst. But I want to believe in miracles all the same.
