It’s no secret that improving mobility is my whole world—from my day job as a transportation planner, to my nonprofit advocacy work at @bikejc.org and @hudcostreets.org.

Whether you walk, bike, take transit, or drive, transportation affects us daily and has much room for improvement.

Please, can Jersey City and Newark government do this for route 1&9 connecting New Jersey's two largest cities together and making it safe for pedestrians and cyclists.
Zohran just went out and fixed the Williamsburg Bridge bike entrance. Just did it. No faffing, no nonsense. Bam. Fixed.

Looks like they will be running service every 15 minutes on the 119 on Saturdays, instead of every 20.
🚌 🎉 Thank you NJ Transit! Much needed frequency improvements. More weekend service coming to the 119 and more weekday service coming to the 125 🚌 🎉

We'll continue advocating for faster, more frequent, and more reliable buses.

Someone on reddit posted what looks like a faregate installation at the Hoboken HBLR station?

HBLR use proof-of-payment but it’s infamously easy to fare dodge due to minimal fare enforcement staffing. It seems we might be moving towards a hybrid system where the busiest systems get faregates.

N.J. weighs return of traffic cameras, targeting school bus violations first
A bill that would allow use of cameras to catch drivers passing school buses loading and unloading children could overturn New Jersey's ban on using cameras to enforce traffic laws.

If every NJT bus line magically had 10 min headways, what are the lines that would get significantly higher ridership? While NJT responds to ridership changes, I bet there are lots of changes they should consider and aren't on their radar.

Tolls rise 3% in 2026, extending a system born in 1948 with a promise that drivers would travel New Jersey’s turnpike for free starting in 1986.

2025 was brutal for US transit. Agencies faced budget deficits, flat ridership, and open hostility from the White House.

I wrote a series of stories outlining ways to help transit endure.

Lesson #1: Whatever you do, don’t cut service. Riders will leave – permanently.

Here are a few others 🧵
The Last Thing US Transit Agencies Should Do Now
Rising costs and widening deficits as pandemic aid runs out are challenging bus and train operators in many cities. But cutting service needs to be a last resort.

Yeah. Seems NJT is having data-sharing issues with Google. This is what the customer advocate told me.

Hi Peri — NJ TRANSIT has reached out to Google to improve GTFS data sharing across all modes. This will take some time to fully resolve, and real-time departure information for HBLR isn’t available yet.
