Bike JC stands in solidarity with our immigrant neighbors and those seeking refuge in Jersey City. We watched ICE’s activity in our city this week with horror when agents targeted hard-working people who use the 9th Street elevator to bring bikes between Hoboken and Jersey City Heights.

It's the 9am peak on a weekday morning, and there is no congestion to be seen on the Newark Bay Bridge. There's the usual congestion at the Lincoln Tunnel.

$6B for two new bridges is the wrong way to spend precious dollars. One bridge, not two, and we can invest billions in transit instead.

Outgoing NJ governor Phil Murphy pardoned a killer driver on his last day in office. The driver was the son of a powerful South Jersey Democratic boss. That looks pretty corrupt to me. A killer hit-and-run driver, who stuck and killed a pedestrian. www.nj.com/politics/202...
In one of his final acts, Murphy pardoned son of Democratic power broker
The driver, the son of a powerful attorney, was pardoned the same day he was found guilty in a fatal hit-and-run.

And the nation’s worst e-bike law to boot! Don’t let the door hit ya on the way out.
The lasting Murphy legacy: lies about congestion pricing increasing emissions while simultaneously forcing through a highway widening project in Jersey City that would definitely increase emissions.

New Jersey now has one of the worst, if not THE worst, e-bike laws in the country, requiring even people with pedal-assist bikes that top out at 18 mph to get the equivalent of motorcycle licenses.

New NJ law to require insurance and registration of all e-bikes is likely to get final vote in state Assembly and Senate on Monday or Tuesday of this week. Still time to register objections with your state elected reps if you have not done so yet. Bike JC has a great guide how to do it here:
Here’s the best link for more information and how to get involved:

Senator Scutari's grossly irresponsible e-bike bill has advanced again, despite being a knee-jerk reaction to 2 women being murdered by a man using a car as a weapon. It would criminalize e-bike riders and discourage safe and sustainable transport, and it must be stopped.

Why New Jersey Turnpike tolls were meant to disappear and never did
Tolls rise 3% in 2026, extending a system born in 1948 with a promise that drivers would travel New Jersey’s turnpike for free starting in 1986.

The next time there's a fight over reclaiming space from cars, one thing that gives me hope is that we will have a new mayor who will point to what happened with congestion pricing — and Citi Bike, 14th Street, etc. — and tell the naysayers that they are almost always wrong.
Year 1 data on congestion pricing in Manhattan…

* Vehicle traffic: -11%
* Foot traffic: +3.4%
* Storefront vacancy: -0.9%
* Pollution: -22%
* Revenue for mass transit: $548M

So YES this has been a huge success.
