What West Ham are achieving this season with the 20th highest revenue in the world should be enshrined in sports legend. The anti-Moneyball. The dumbest guys in the room. This is a story about the triumph of the human spirit

Hammersmith Bridge partially closed on and off since 2014, Gateshead flyover closed, Redheugh bridge (the alternative to Gateshead flyover) partially closed, this bridge fucked. all seems good imo

he's not blaming the left - he's blamed Starmer, a right wing prime minister
At some point you’re going to have to consider and address the ‘environment’ that the right have built, and not called out. Blaming the left is bizarre.

one of my more mad opinions is I kind of think Zipcar should be taken into public ownership because replacing car ownership with car rental within big cities is a good thing imo
Zipcar is shutting down its UK operations, basically the only car club that worked in London. Massive kick to anyone who tries to live in capital without owning a car. Having been a customer for 17 years and used Zipvans to move house repeatedly, this is.... very bad! (Zipcar is owned by Avis)

I think this is why I've never understood how twitter can be radicalising lol, I only see tweets from people I follow?
you should quit social media if you can.
if you can't, you should use apps that give you and old-school reverse chronological feed of posts from people you follow. yes, like bluesky.

You should quit social media for good
Platforms optimized for engagement warp our politics, erode attention, and harm our wellbeing. Here’s how I minimize time on the (anti‑)social web.

I feel like the easiest way a company could convince me to buy an expensive game is to give more free demos on the PS Store
AAA video games should cost $100 on launch. this would still be extremely cheap for the amount of time and enjoyment you get out of them! But an audience of whiny babies has kept them literally at the same price for *two decades* despite both general inflation *and* sector-specific costs rising

They say we have no “footballing culture” but right now in America, there’s a team named “Sharktopus FC” that just earned a replay of a loss because the ref for their last match turned out to have once been a player for their opponent’s second team. 🇺🇸

Today’s newsletter is an investigation by Sasha Patel and Ben Jacob into the expansion of Gail’s, and how it relies on low-paid migrant workers (particularly from Gujarat) to sustain its rate of growth.

Thank you to every Gail’s worker who talked to us.

"reasonably paid" bitch £118k is a huge salary lol
But it's not without political cost - more reasonably paid professionals (like GPs) would also be affected: the average GP who's a member of an LLP earns £118k, and would see their take-home pay fall by about £6k.

imo the bodies deciding the rules of a sport should have 2 aims in mind:
- keep the sport safe
- incentivise playing in the "correct" way
the nerds working in sports will always try to find a cheat code (here it's set pieces), and the rules need to respond to make that less effective
My position that the nerds are bad still holds up! Even as an Arsenal fan, who loves the irony of the team that used to be bullied on set pieces dominating them, you can always bet that once the goal becomes to solve the sport, the fun of it will be engineered out in service of math.

one thing that's always ignored with the "mickey mouse" degree stuff is I'm pretty sure these degrees *hugely* subsidise STEM degrees. I got like 6 hours of contact time per week and access to a library - scientists got like 30 hours and access to a lab, which I think is a bit more expensive
So, the plan is to cut English, the arts, and sociology - the degrees that actually study culture - while on another part of your platform claiming to “defend” British culture.

It’s performance nationalism with a reading age of seven.

someone should create a bot to flag copyright infringement whenever a Sora video is created
I agree with every word Zelda Williams says. And this at the end from OpenAI makes me want to go full Ned Ludd. Creators can’t have a blanket opt-out on copyright infringement of their work and have to fill out a form appealing to OpenAI’s mercy every time? Fuck off into the sun
