Numerous planners have "done the math" to determine all of the places it would make sense to build high speed rail in the US. @nerd4cities.bsky.social's "56 High Speed Rail Links We Should've Built Already" is one of the most interesting videos on this subject:

Today, workers continue clearing the junkyard site adjacent the trail.

@AtlantaBeltline’s Southside Trail would have been complete ages ago if it prioritized trail construction instead of the various side projects prior to trail delivery.

Haven’t refined the map in some time, so added a few projects under construction & delivered.

What’s notable? Little of our bike infrastructure is delivered by the city itself.

Much is delivered by @AtlantaBeltline, @PATHFoundation, UWCID, @MidtownATL…

Need CoA to step it up.

🎄Merry Christmas, Atlanta!

You know what would be gift? If @CityofAtlanta delivered new bike lanes by the World Cup.

Connect the @AtlantaBeltline to @MBStadium.

Close gaps. Connect Westside to Eastside. Link in the Southside. Create access from AUC to jobs at Tech Square.

Whenever I close a lane or a road we work as quickly and diligently as possible to re open as soon as possible.

That being said….. the thought does cross my mind “what if I just kept this lane closed - to fuck with people”

To create a reliable bike network, connect existing protected infrastructure with one another & extend to more areas of interest.

Said another way: Connect the Dots.

That’s it. That’s the game.

Yeah honestly bike signals here are most often redundant with car or walk signals. Knowing that they aren't going to do anything like a Dutch-style prioritization system, the city just needs to open the lanes and we'll worry about bike signals with a full overhaul of signal prioritization.

The city takes FOREVER to open non-car infrastructure after it is for all useful purposes complete. The Juniper bike lane for instance is STILL closed off and its been ready for months!

Had to ride it myself and y’all the new Washington/Courtland cycle track in Atlanta looks & feels *GREAT*!!!

Drivers will be dumb at the pedestrian crossing (& already squished one of the K71 bollards)- but it’s also an intuitive crossing for pedestrians.

Shoutout GSU & ATLDOT for the win here!!!

Had a dream the Courtland / Washington St cycle track was under construction. Was the concrete wheel curbs, slightly smashed up and you had to dodge the debris.

Today? Got word the actual barriers are up:

LET’S FUCKING GOOOO!!!

I think the biggest pain point with Kirkwood is still Hosea and how the Trolley Trail dead ends and leaves riders with no protection

Hosea should have protected bike lanes

Took the kids for a walk by our old house in Denver (where we lived when they were born).

Without prompting they both critiqued the lack of sidewalks in some spots & “tiny toddler size sidewalks.”

They’ve also complained that it’s way too warm for winter.

ATLDOT needs to add these to their speed reduction toolbox.
Crude math:

-1,400 miles of Atlanta streets
-5,600 intersections (guessing!) @ avg of 1 per 1/4 mile
-1k signalized (true)
-4.6k not signalized
-5% (230) not signalized converted to 🔄
-15’ clearance & 13’ diameter 🔄

= 30,528 sq ft (0.7 acre) of new shaded & impermeable space!

The street would've been redone beginning next year to make way for an Atlanta Streetcar stop, had Andre Dickens and Portman Holdings (which owns the building across the street) not sabotaged it
