Lots of clear signs the economy is weaker than last year (but the stock market is not one of them: wonder when that floor is going to drop to catch up with all the data). Believe data, not Trump and his cronies.
Real wages (after inflation) were growing at 2.0% last year. Now it’s 0.8% — “clearly playing into what the majority of American households would define as an affordability crisis.”

Tear gas is banned in international warfare, yet classified as a “riot control agent” that law enforcement can use for crowd control.

“It just doesn’t work well, and it hits the weakest people the most, and causes the most complications in them,” an anesthesiology professor at Duke University said.
Tear Gas Is Way More Dangerous Than Police Let On
In the middle of a respiratory pandemic, law enforcement agencies have used tear gas in especially dangerous ways. The chemical agent also seeps into homes, contaminates food, furniture, skin and surf...

Hard agree
Lost in the Fed Chair nomination news: what Kevin Warsh’s leadership could mean for climate change policy.

Central banks shape how economies can prepare for changes to our climate—but Warsh previously dismissed climate change as “politically charged.”

Climate finance isn’t politics. It’s policy.
Trump’s Fed chair pick could lead shift on climate change
Kevin Warsh faces a tricky path to actually taking up the Fed leadership but were he to take charge, he may lead a major shift in how the Fed views climate.

No one should have billions of dollars. This is the kind of crap they do with $(along with efforts to destroy democracy). I vote for no more billionaires, aka tax billionaires until they are no longer billionaires. Ps.This as Bezos’ Washington Post is laying of tons of people from his news room.

I have thought of this quote a lot and shared it with lots of people. Helped me point out how car brained we have been guided to be: we have assumed it is a right to have a car wherever we want and gov should help us store it? Wrong. City spaces are meant for people not cars :)
“It's not my duty as Mayor to make sure you have a parking spot. For me it's the same as if you bought a cow, or a refrigerator, and then asked me where you're going to put them.” — Mayor of Pontevedra, Spain (re-elected 6 times)

I was a White House ethics lawyer.

I used to advise people not to even accept a free cup of coffee from someone who had interests before them. And staff followed those rules.

I can’t even find the words to describe the scale of Trump’s corruption here.
Foreign countries are bribing our president to sell out the American people.

Trump family businesses made $187 MILLION from this deal, and just months later he gave the UAE some of our most top-secret AI tech.

They are selling our national security to the highest bidder.

Not what I am hearing when I talk to the people of Georgia…
Rep. Buddy Carter: "I applaud Don Lemon being arrested. He should be. As I go through the state and I hear people, they are tired of this. They are tired of seeing what's happening here. They want to see people in handcuffs, they want to see people go to jail."

Sounds like someone that is going to cower to Trump’s demands, not make well reasoned decisions based on facts. Warsh might not be as bad as some of the other options Trump talked about. Does not make him an actual good choice for Fed Chair.
Neil Dutta of Renaissance Macro asked Claude AI to rate Warsh’s speeches & public comments for monetary hawkishness or dovishness. Krugman posts chart, says Warsh was very hawkish following GFC, but turned abruptly dovish after Trump won in 2024. paulkrugman.substack.com/p/kevin-wars...

If he does this, and isn't impeached and removed, it's a Rubicon moment where we are no longer a republic. Sorry, I don't care how much Republicans like his policies or fear his wrath, you can't just let a president cut checks to himself from the Treasury.
Trump on his multiple suits against the federal government: "I'm supposed to work out a settlement with myself ... We could make it a substantial amount, nobody would care, because it's gonna go to numerous, very good charities."

Q: In Texas, a Democrat won a special election in an area you won by 17 points. Your reaction?

TRUMP: I don't know. I didn't hear about it. Somebody ran -- where?

Q: In Texas

TRUMP: I'm not involved. You mean I won by 17, and this person lost? Things like that happen. I'm not on the ballot
