Hi! If you’ve followed us from another platform, welcome! And if you’re new here, let us introduce ourselves—we’re NRDC, a group of lawyers, advocates, and policy experts working to defend the planet and its people from climate and public health crises.
Relying on an old energy grid, hurricane-battered Puerto Ricans face frequent blackouts. Bad Bunny showcased the crisis in his historic Super Bowl halftime show just weeks after the Trump administration canceled programs meant to build a cleaner, resilient system on the island.

Cute ad campaign. I bet the 72,000 policyholders State Farm dropped in California appreciate the laugh.

We need insurers who aren’t “halfway there”, which means: Paying covered claims. Pricing fairly. Rewarding risk reduction. Protecting people, not just company profits.

Toxic “forever” chemicals known as PFAS have been found at levels above the EPA’s safety thresholds in all but three states. We have been working to uphold the standards that protect Americans from PFAS, despite the current administration’s moves to weaken them.

Trump’s EPA is letting some polluters dodge Clean Air Act rules. Medical sterilization plants using toxic chemicals are getting free passes to exceed emission limits. We’re joining partners to sue the EPA for giving polluters this unwarranted break.
Trump's 'get-out-of-jail-free card' for polluters faces its latest test in court
The president exempted about 40 medical sterilization companies from Biden-era emissions standards. A new lawsuit challenges his authority.

The Roadless Area Conservation Rule protects our forests from harmful roadbuilding that pollutes waterways, threatens clean drinking water, and fragments wildlife habitat. But the Trump administration wants to strip these protections and open forests to extractive industries.
Every Road Cuts Deeper: How Forest Fragmentation Threatens Water and Wildlife
As more and more of our forests face threats from industry and the Trump administration, it’s critical to protect the Roadless Area Conservation Rule.

Last week, communities across the country gathered with a simple demand for the oil and gas industry: You make a mess, you should clean it up. This push comes in support of laws that would require polluters to help pay for the costs of climate change.
From a Whisper to a Murmur to a Chorus: It’s Time to Make Polluters Pay for the Climate Crisis
Communities are rallying during this week’s Make Polluters Pay Week of Action.

Over the last year, the Trump administration has tried to halt every offshore wind project in the country under construction.

As of this week, all five have won in court and are building again.
Courts Blow Back the Trump Administration’s Offshore Wind Freeze

Some may ask why a group like ours would weigh in at this moment. While we have all witnessed the chaos unfolding across the country, we at NRDC are also deeply concerned by how it impacts every aspect of civil society, including our work to protect the environment. 1/2

The Trump administration is continuing to give a free pass to the worst polluters. These exemptions not only sacrifice the health of communities but are illegal and undemocratic. We are already headed to court to challenge these illegal exemptions and will continue to defend the air we all breathe.

Congress is considering cutting millions in funding that was promised to help States replace toxic lead pipes. These cuts would delay efforts to remove pipes that contaminate drinking water and endanger the health and safety of many families.
States say they need more help replacing lead pipes. Congress may cut the funding instead.
The U.S. House voted to cut millions promised for the work this year. The Senate will vote this week, as advocates and some lawmakers push back.

The Trump administration wants to open our oceans to a destructive deep sea mining industry that would destroy the sea floor and the ecosystems it supports, causing long-lasting harm to the marine environment.

Developing nations face the worst of climate impacts, but have the fewest resources to respond. To accelerate global climate progress, wealthy countries must continue to expand climate finance to help these nations cut their emissions and adapt to the growing climate crisis.
To Speed Up Climate Progress, Support for Developing Countries Is Key
Here’s why follow-through on a $100 billion–per–year climate finance promise, from collecting data to determining success, remains complex but critical....

Trump’s EPA is rolling back public health protections by weakening limits on toxic pollutants like mercury and soot. Its leadership is siding with polluters over people and abandoning the EPA’s mission to protect human health.

Burning wood pellets for power receives billions in subsidies, but according to scientists, it may not be clean energy. Companies like Drax are clear-cutting forests and trees for energy and harming communities in the process. www.forbes.com/sites/kensil...
Are Wood Pellets Worth Billions In Subsidies? Drax Faces A Reckoning
Policymakers are rethinking biomass as new research shows wood pellets may increase carbon emissions rather than reduce them. The focus is now on subsidies.

Solar and wind energy have helped keep the lights on during recent storms. By modernizing the electrical grid, we can get cheaper and cleaner power to the areas that need it—when they need it most.

As climate change makes winter storms more common, we need an electrical grid up for the task. Coal and gas infrastructure breaking down has been the biggest issue during these deep freezes, while renewable energy has helped keep communities online.
In the Face of a Winter Storm, Is Our Grid Reliable?
Yes and no. Holiday power outages revealed weaknesses with fossil-based electricity, but solar and wind power came through in the clutch.

PM 2.5, also known as soot, is a dangerous type of air pollution made up of tiny particles that can penetrate deep into your lungs and cause serious health effects. The EPA wants to rollback protections that limit air pollution like PM2.5, putting families’ health at risk.

Science shows that chemicals in plastics can be toxic to humans. While scientists are working to figure out how much plastic ends up in our bodies, one thing is clear: Microplastics are everywhere and they’re not good for our health.

Microplastics are bad for us. But scientists are still figuring out the rest of the story.
