As far as we know, these are not yet death camps, but they follow the camp's logics. Zones of exception, where the Law is equally unapplicable to the detainees or the sovereigns who organize the terror. Where political beings are transformed into bodies of bare life.

In the span of about 4 minutes Mom just asked me successively to define anarchism, Marxism, and communism, so it's going great

convinced that our society's addiction to extremely didactic YA literature is the blame for this.
> be me
> read too much sci fi
> people constantly say that it has white supremacist overtones
> go to the first short story commonly called `cyberpunk`
> there is a fucking ascii art swastika in the villain's computer files

at some point it's your fault if you confuse commentary for endorsement

A group in San Diego has been patrolling neighborhoods to identify potential ICE presence. They keep watch for vehicles that may belong to federal agencies, and use livestreams, radios, and social media to keep communities informed.
How Volunteer Patrols Are Working to Protect San Diego Immigrant Communities From ICE
In response to mass deportation threats and mixed messages from county leaders on federal cooperation, San Diego organizers are taking action to inform residents of ICE activity.

This evening's update from the U.S. National Hurricane Center on #Melissa is ominous, and explicitly mentions: "catastrophic and life-threatening flash flooding...extensive infrastructural damage...and potentially prolonged isolation of communities" in both Jamaica & Haiti.

Always take sentences using “the Cloud” or “the Internet” and try replacing those phrases with “A shed in Virginia” to see how they hold up. “Our service is fully based in a shed in Virginia”; “All my files are in a shed in Virginia”; “A shed in Virginia was designed to survive a nuclear war”, etc.

Rabbi Arthur Waskow (1933-2025), זכרונו לברכה ("may his memory be for a blessing").

A trailblazer and champion of the religious Jewish left for decades. A thinker and activist who put his body on the line many, many times for other people and for our non-human relatives and the earth.

In social movement studies, we talk about how marches and protests expand the threshold of acceptable risk so that people take more and bigger social risks IN PUBLIC, EN MASSE. This is extremely important for the bourgeois white folks holding signs and building social rapport.
Not a shitpost: #NoKings is feel-good performative activism for comfortable mostly upper and upper middle class white folks and that’s good, actually. Millions of people in the streets protesting a fascist regime is good. It is good for the normie baseline to be massive displays of public dissent.

Obviously there's a perspective that says "build your mass org, not everything needs a reaction" is the only viable action in the face of the fascist cliff, but the sense of national precipice is feeling severe, and to refuse to build on unprecedented mass action strikes me as real folly.
