Fifty years ago today, the SS Edmund Fitzgerald sank on Lake Superior.

If you don’t know the story, or only know the high-level details thanks to Gordon Lightfoot, this documentary is two hours of your life very well spent.

James also has laid out his traditional pre-run challenge in a thread:
It’s time for James Challenges @desertbus.org Chat. But I’m gonna be honest with y’all and lay it all out. Obviously this year has been rough on everyone, myself included. It’s been a struggle to find the energy for this years run. I know I’ll muster the juice needed for the show, but I’m tired.

I feel like we have the opportunity to turn David Lynch's quote into this moment's "Keep Calm and Carry On" and it's a far better rallying cry too.

I’ve been mumbling my way through this line for twenty years. Twenty. Never bothered to look up the lyrics. Until today!

It feels like closing a very minor chapter in my youth, somehow.

Here's how to turn it off.

We’ve made this investigation free to read because so many people in Sheffield are affected by this story.

Our journalists have been knocking on doors for weeks and we’ve had to employ lawyers because of the legal threats made against us.

We can only do this kind of journalism with your support.
“It broke my heart, that was my savings towards a new car,” one woman who paid Milne tens of thousands of pounds told us. “He has just wiped me out.”

Who is Andrew Milne - the solicitor sending "very aggressive" letters to Sheffield homeowners?

Maintaining my tradition of having every shirt since DB5! …admittedly the 5 to 2017 ones being from the restock last(?) year. Details aren’t important.

What *is* important is Desert Bus! An excellent week-long event for an excellent cause. Go to desertbus.org on Friday 14/11 to watch and donate!
The radical scientists at @fangamer.com have concocted another totally awesome shirt for #DB2025! Beam over to shirt.desertbus.org to order this year's version, or a previous edition (in select sizes)!

They've endured so much on low pay since the cyberattack in 2023 and the least we can do is have their backs now.

Posit: the early millennial Keep Calm tea towels era and all the bunting and baking and nice cup of tea etc, which was understandably mocked and picked over for problematic elements at the time, is in fact the correct way to handle the 21st century
"Keep Calm and Carry On" seems a long time ago now.

"BrItAiN iS nOt ThE cOuNtRy It WaS" - apparently not. After 7/7, people went right back on the tube and buses. During the troubles, IRA bombs on the mainland didn't stop people living their lives. During the blitz, people endured.

After far too long reading it as a ‘chill before bed’ book, finally finished Project Hail Mary.

Good grief, was that an enjoyable read. Highly recommend it.

Looking forward to the movie adaptation next year! Very curious to see how it translates to the big screen.
