I wrote for @adamgurri.liberalcurrents.com before it was cool. :D

One of the better new publications out there, grateful to have their voice and editorial perspective.
Larger media outlets have wavered since the first Trump term, but we've remained steadfast in our categorical rejection of MAGA in all its aspects and our affirmation of liberal democracy and the principles that it rests on.

In the second Trump term, we are growing: www.gofundme.com/f/the-libera...

The Ward 10 race is frustrating to me. I know and like both candidates. I voted for Aisha Chughtai.

I think Lydia has run a better ground game. I think Aisha had an opportunity to proactively highlight her record, but hasn't done so clearly 1/x

In social movement studies, we talk about how marches and protests expand the threshold of acceptable risk so that people take more and bigger social risks IN PUBLIC, EN MASSE. This is extremely important for the bourgeois white folks holding signs and building social rapport.
Not a shitpost: #NoKings is feel-good performative activism for comfortable mostly upper and upper middle class white folks and that’s good, actually. Millions of people in the streets protesting a fascist regime is good. It is good for the normie baseline to be massive displays of public dissent.

So much of the crisis is the fact that liberals are unwilling to describe what's happening, because they're scared to say that their opponents are lying, are operating in bad faith, want evil or harmful policy, and don't share our basic goals about what society should look like

The Nation pulls NO punches, from @espiers.bsky.social

"There's no requirement to take part in this whitewashing campaign. Refusing to join in doesn’t make anyone a bad person. It’s a choice to write an obituary that begins “Joseph Goebbels was a gifted marketer and loving father to six children.”
Charlie Kirk’s Legacy Deserves No Mourning
The white Christian nationalist provocateur wasn’t a promoter of civil discourse. He preached hate, bigotry, and division

Ilhan Omar @ilhanmn.bsky.social, who faced multiple death threats from people who've since been convicted, calls out Trump +allies for weaponizing Charlie Kirk’s killing against the left.

“awful people don’t deserve to be killed, but they don’t deserve to be praised, either” is apparently a thought too complex for the pundit mind

Also, if Ezra Klein believed in politics defined by vigorous debate with your opponents, he could come here on Bluesky and confront critics who engage with his ideas.

But he won’t do that, because what he actually believes in is a politics where everyone worships Ezra Klein for his profundity.

It's unfortunate that Kirk died. It's more unfortunate how he lived.

What really tears me apart about this election is I disagree on some of the policy preferences of our most progressive council members, but on the other hand our me-me-me mayor can't be trusted, has a record of failure, and his richest supporters are some world class dirtbags.

I said it before and I'll say it again, Frey and company are coming to ruin any chance at a DFL majority, and DFL elected officials and party leaders need to stop fucking around with these nitwits if they want to win a DFL majority anytime in the near future.
this isn’t about minnesota. very misleading to pretend so when every photo is of minneapolis. the website is very vague and ominous. it’s apparently by rick kupchella

i remember a milton friedman argument that went like "capitalism will end bigotry because the liberal orgs will outcompete the bigoted ones" and that may work for a spherical economy in a vacuum but i think the way to look at it is people in charge of things going "how much bigotry can i afford?"

Kids are now seasoned road warriors. Minneapolis to B.C. and back, with stops at a couple farms, the Royal Canadian Mint, and roadside ice cream stalls for that tiger ice cream along the way.
