Hello to all my new followers. I'm u/Hergrim over on AskHistorians, and here I'm mostly intermittently active and post about medieval warfare, various random thoughts about medieval warfare, occasionally the intersection of history and fantasy and whatever else takes my fancy.

Ugh hate to post this but bringing this back to just get us out of a “small” hole. We have money coming in but it is a struggle to get caught up

I’m sorry I just found out that in 1379, as in, 650 years ago, a baby girl was born in Yorkshire and named Diot Coke

history is a fucking joke lmao

I actually found someone who had attempted to port TBCS over from 3.5 to 5E. In their words, everything except for the backgrounds "would necessitate redesigns from the ground up".

There's a hyper ambitious, not particularly well informed part of me that's all "do it do it do it" right now.
I've been thinking more on this, and after learning a lot more about 3.5e and managing to parse some of the crunchiness, I think it would be much easier to port it to Pathfinder 2e.

While I've never played Pathfinder, it seems much closer to 3.5 than 5E in design.
My brain isn't crunchy enough to fully comprehend the design and game balance of either version of 5E, let alone D&D 3.5 (which I've never played), but I can't help but think that the Green Ronin Black Company campaign setting could be fairly easily ported to 5E.

Toronto people: Saw the Too Good to Go food app shared the other day (discounted end of day clearout food). Turns out we have it here. Tried it for produce from a store local to me. This bag they filled (pictured) was $8.

81% to the goal--thank you so much to everyone for your generosity in sharing & giving so far. Archita would be very grateful for your continued support so she can make her goal and find some semblance of security in this terrible time.
Fellow Calcuttan writer/editor Archita Mittra is in desperate need of financial help. She recently lost her father, her home was damaged in the recent rains, & her mother's in hospital. They don't have insurance, & she's a freelancer. I can vouch for her. Please share widely & donate:

I've known Merc a long time (like, before I was published a long time), and therefore have known Siah online over the years.

Please help if you can.

I have some really good news for Andrew Hastie: he won't ever have to worry about repealing Labor's 2030 emissions target, and probably won't have to worry about their 2050 one either.

Journalist friends, you know what to do.

Sarah Kendzior was suspended, she doesn’t know why, and the head of T&S said he won’t confirm whether or not the suspension was intentional unless media requests hit a threshold
We usually do that in response to media requests once they hit that threshold. I’ll try not to weigh in here, since that’s still details of an individual case. An interesting topic for a separate write up though, without discussing case specifics.

A lot of people called me a baby killer & a corporate stooge, but let me tell you what I did in Afghanistan.

By 2010 I had dual-classed MP and Transportation Coordinator. My duties were split between 2 worlds: coordinating & observing convoys, & riding in them as armed security.

Now to put an explanation of the map into its own thread, Special Order no. 191 is found around noon on September 13th, 1862, and within a few hours is in McClellan's hands. It's something of a truism that this "Lost Order" represented a tremendous opportunity for the Army of the Potomac.
So here is a marked-up section of the map of Northern Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania from the Atlas to Accompany the Official Records of the Union and Confederate Armies, which is available on Wikipedia. This attempts to translate Special Order 191 into space and time.

I got this useful bon mot from a middle school teacher recently.

In response to, “I DONT UNDERSTAND,” he calmly said, “okay what steps have you taken to understand?”

And that’s when I realized that a lot of folks have no steps.
