The idea that Jim Kirk is some womanizing jock is not compatible with the actual text of Star Trek.
He never shows an interest in sports.
He plays 3D chess all the time.
He has an encyclopedic knowledge of historical trivia.
And in only 13 of 79 episodes does he consensually even kiss a woman.

If you’ll recall, the election was actually very close. Trump won with a narrow 1.5-point margin in the popular vote. And yet, the idea that America had experienced a political “earthquake” that demanded far-reaching interpretations became gospel almost immediately.

Wrath of Khan explicitly addresses the need for adaptive devices in the future. McCoy gets Kirk glasses because Kirk is one of the few people for whom corrective medicine does not work. He's allergic to the medicine they would normally use.
I have a friend who said, of Starfleet Academy, that this took them out of it - that seeing a person in a wheelchair in the 32nd century seemed unrealistic, since medicine in Star Trek "should be able to cure whatever was wrong with them."

Star Trek TOS was made almost 60 years ago.
It's not futuristic anymore, it's retrofuturistic.
Attempting to make sequels which are currently futuristic, but set in the same universe, doesn't make sense.
It would be easier if current Trek committed to being retrofuturistic.
