Hello to all my new followers. I'm u/Hergrim over on AskHistorians, and here I'm mostly intermittently active and post about medieval warfare, various random thoughts about medieval warfare, occasionally the intersection of history and fantasy and whatever else takes my fancy.
You know, I tried to figure out which of several different things might be causing me to feel physically and emotionally drained. Then I realised that the answer is probably "all of the above".

Hooray for multiple sources of stress!

Another social media thread turned into an article & it's again about something that's probably not as old as you may have thought; When did people start using a chopping block for firewood?

TV review: ‘Robin Hood’, episode 1 (2025)
Before you start, yes, I know, the story of Robin Hood is mostly a myth, a legend, so those who tell that story get a bit more freedom, yes.But the writers, set designer & director all have cho…

As @norton.bsky.social has written at length, the *actual* reaction of most people in the 1920s to the danger posed by (almost unbelievably high) auto fatality rates was that they should be restricted and regulated

If you want to understand Canada, start here: A man who steals a city bus for a joyride refuses to let on a passenger with an expired monthly pass.
When a man hijacked a bus in Hamilton, Ontario, on Tuesday, the potentially catastrophic scenario ended happily. It turns out he was a pretty decent bus driver. He made regular stops to pick up passengers, the police reported. At one point someone tried to board with an expired bus pass. No dice.
A Man Took a Bus for a Joyride. Turns Out, He’s Not a Bad Driver.
The incident in Hamilton, Ontario, ended safely with an arrest and no injuries (and all fares paid).

Along with everyone living with/around allergies, I’d love it if you could join me in donating to the fund to support the family of Harry Kitto - funds will be used to repatriate him to the UK, and also support the Natasha Allergy Research Foundation.

So much needless death.

Sadly, "May I Ask for One Final Thing?" doesn't include any Toxic Yuri or bi panic, but the latest episode does make it clear that, if you have pheromones, you should make sure they work on everyone, or else you might find a refined lady kicking your arse.

I actually found someone who had attempted to port TBCS over from 3.5 to 5E. In their words, everything except for the backgrounds "would necessitate redesigns from the ground up".

There's a hyper ambitious, not particularly well informed part of me that's all "do it do it do it" right now.
I've been thinking more on this, and after learning a lot more about 3.5e and managing to parse some of the crunchiness, I think it would be much easier to port it to Pathfinder 2e.

While I've never played Pathfinder, it seems much closer to 3.5 than 5E in design.
My brain isn't crunchy enough to fully comprehend the design and game balance of either version of 5E, let alone D&D 3.5 (which I've never played), but I can't help but think that the Green Ronin Black Company campaign setting could be fairly easily ported to 5E.
