When I was a kid they showed a video at school about how editing was used in an ad to make it look like the Jam Ball toy actually worked. It absolutely did not- I knew it didn't because our next door neighbors had it and it sucked.
I haven't trusted advertising since.
I can’t emphasize enough that you should talk to students about this. You’ll both learn why this kind of ad is effective (through the generally low skepticism of ads younger folks express) but also you get to watch the light go off as they realize what the downside is. It’s really interesting.

We should start saying the Epstein Class instead of oligarchy because I honestly believe most people don't know what that means.
Ossoff: We were told that MAGA was for working-class Americans. But this is a government of, by, and for the ultra-rich. It’s the wealthiest Cabinet ever. This is the Epstein class. They are the elites they pretend to hate.

“the Epstein class” should be THE tagline tbh. it’s so accurate their only defense is redactions, and it captures a hundred different linked evils at once. it also perfectly clarifies why trying to distinguish btw “kitchen table issues” (ie money) and “identity politics” (ie misogyny) is impossible

VA Gov. Spanberger (moderate, was in CIA) and NYC Mayor Mamdani (left, is in DSA) both taking steps to block local law enforcement from helping ICE as it violently violates people's rights is a good example of how the relevant divide in the Dem coalition isn't center-left, it's fight-don't fight.

No clearer sign that Trump has no issues with murdering American citizens.
TRUMP: “2 people out of tens of thousands and you get bad publicity.”😕

“But they were Americans who died.”

TRUMP: “We’ve been very tough on the waters.” 🤷🏼

All he cares about is himself and his image. Diabolical.

I've been saying for years that at best, performance reviews are a waste of time. But this wasn't the solution I was looking for.
Meta now forcing all employees to use AI tools and tying it to employee performance, according to @theinformation.com.

HR said "this is not an activity tracker—it’s an impact-evidence starter"

That's a fun way to rebrand workplace surveillance.

Tear gas is banned in international warfare, yet classified as a “riot control agent” that law enforcement can use for crowd control.

“It just doesn’t work well, and it hits the weakest people the most, and causes the most complications in them,” an anesthesiology professor at Duke University said.
Tear Gas Is Way More Dangerous Than Police Let On
In the middle of a respiratory pandemic, law enforcement agencies have used tear gas in especially dangerous ways. The chemical agent also seeps into homes, contaminates food, furniture, skin and surf...

I genuinely have no idea how to convey this to the American people, but I think the biggest impediment to any kind of immigration reform is that people are convinced that "legal" and "illegal" are immutable, intrinsic categories instead of a rapidly-shifting arbitrary constellation of regulations.

Previously, the companies have limited their political giving to state politics.
