Trump has been president for less than 5 years – about 2% of the history of this country. He's responsible for 22% of the national debt. The budget issue is a Republican long con that has worked spectacularly with people who don't believe in facts.

I had an enlightening conversation with mathematician Hannah Cairo about how she broke a huge conjecture in Harmonic Analysis at just 17 years old, what being a transgender mathematician means to her and how math has supported her along her journey! 🏳️‍⚧️ 🌊 ✨

NPR President and CEO Katherine Maher on NPR Funding:

This is not about balancing the federal budget. The appropriation for public broadcasting, including NPR and PBS, represents less than 0.0001% of the federal budget.

Every $1 of federal funding generates $7 from local sources

A lot of people don’t really understand the extent to which “financially stable” relies on a functional government and social safety net. The downstream effect of this many people losing their healthcare, their jobs, and their citizenship will be A LOT of financial instability across demographics.
Having a conversation with a friend a few minutes ago. She said we don't have to worry because we're financially stable. We're ok. This kind of thinking will be our downfall because I'm not ok if my friends, family, and neighbors don't have health care and can be dragged away by ICE. I'm not ok.

The GOP passed a budget that will eviscerate health care in rural areas. They delayed much of the impact for after the midterms, hoping the public will think any discussion of the impending collapse is hyperbolic.

Local reporters have a chance to do service journalism that'll make a splash too.

when you say shit like “who got to them?” or “they were blackmailed” you’re painting them sympathetically. stop doing that. they’re not victims, they’re grown people who made a conscious choice.
