I want the United States government to ensure that every American has food to eat, a place to live, a safe neighborhood, transportation to move around & work, clean water to drink, free health care & free education.

Don’t care what label you give that.

That’s what I want my taxes to pay for.

Life goals
Excellent. In the parents’ spare room tonight, and just discovered both bedside tables are stuffed with copies of every memorial service/funeral they have ever been to.
They’re in their mid-eighties.

Sleep well between the Drawers of Death.

He who does not read, at 70 years will have lived only one life, his own! He who reads, will have lived 5000 years: He was there when Cain killed Abel, when Renzo married Lucia, when Leopardi admired infinity... Because “Reading is backward immortality”.

“He wants to say, I have figured it all out…We read to know we’re not alone. We read because we are alone. We read and we are not alone. We are not alone. My life is in these books, he wants to tell her. Read these and know my heart.”

Zabernism [ZAB-ur-niz-im]
(n.)
- Unjustified or unwarranted use of military authority; military jackbootery; abusive bullying.

Used in a sentence:
“The fascist leader’s deployment of soldiers against the very citizens it was meant to protect will always be remembered as vainglorious zabernism.”

“There is a moment childhood ends, she thought, looking down at her son. She wanted his moment to be a long time from now.

She wanted her son to be smart enough to get his out of this nightmare but not smart enough to know that he was actually inside one”

My local cafe is playing a version of Bon Jovi’s Living on a Prayer, that sounds like it’s being performed by a high school marching band. Also, I swear, there’s… a kazoo in the mix?

It feels like a portent for how the rest of this week is going to go

I mean, not wrong
I went to the Tate Modern yesterday. In the Rothko room with all the Serious Art Connoisseurs there was a ~5 year old kid who walked up to each painting, pointed at it and shouted 'RECTANGLE' at each one in turn, then left the room.

We watched a series of bio pics and documentaries on Bob Dylan recently and now the angles of his face, and the lines of his poetry, are rambling around in my head. Still do t have a solid fix on either

I taught myself how to knit during the pandemic. It soothes me when I’m feeling stressed or anxious…

I’m on my fourth sweater so far this year.

you know what a country *could* do in the face of this absolutely farcical shift in global economy? invest heavily in research and infrastructure. imagine leveling-up that was actually about boosting industries and universities around the whole country. a positive vision.
