“The Nerves That Fuck Up My Life”

Watercolor, graphite, embroidery floss, and thread.

A mixed media piece about my experience living with chronic pain from Neurogenic Thoracic Outlet Syndrome.
A watercolor painting of a ribcage, neck, and head of a human skeleton. The ribcage is missing the top right rib, as the artist had the same rib removed as part of surgery for Neurogenic Thoracic Outlet Syndrome. A diagram of the nerves of the thoracic outlet, brachial plexus, and head are sewn onto the skeleton. The major nerves are done with thicker yellow embroidery thread, and the smaller ones with thinner yellow sewing thread. The painting was made with the colors French Ultramarine, Permanent Rose, and Raw Sienna. The majority of the skeleton is Raw Sienna, while the shadows are done with French Ultramarine and Permanent Rose. The right eye of the skeleton is filled in with Permanent Rose, while left is Raw Sienna like most of the skeleton.

I unfortunately have to report that practice does actually work.

One year of my digital art improvement in D&D character tokens.
6 portraits of a high elf barbarian with copper skin and short blonde hair drawn by the poster over the past year. The character design and rendering get more complicated which each one. The portraits are closeups of her shoulders and face as they were used for player tokens in an online D&D game. The character herself also changes. Her hair grows longer reflecting time passing. She gets more muscular, but starts to look pale and gaunt with dark circles under her eyes in the last 2 portraits. Her body gains more scars, and wires appear under her skin in the last 2 portraits. #ocsky #oc

For months I tried to design Angie, Flare’s sentient sword, but was never happy with the results.

Finally I decided to draw what I know: ridiculous low-poly Final Fantasy ironing board swords with absolutely useless details.

…And then I kept adding to the picture. 😅

It represents that he’s slowly (but unintentionally) killing Flare from the inside out. Oopsie. The background is blue with a green border. I’m more of a stubborn artist than a good one. This is why I stick to doing art as a hobby. 😬

The good news is I’m getting faster! The 1st portrait took me 37 hours. The 2nd, made about 6 months later, only took 20.

Tested some brushes and surprised myself with a pretty good render! This is the last known portrait of my D&D character before she left home.

Looking at her current appearance... I can see why everyone who knew her before can tell she’s unwell. But hey, she’s also 6 levels stronger!

I picked up an old jewelry box to repurpose as a dice tray/organizer and it’s actually sick as hell lol

Last night Flare rolled 2 nat 20s in a row to tackle her asshole brother into the furniture, put him in a headlock, and tank his Thunderwave.

The dice really wanted to tell that story, and we’re all grateful. 🙏
