He should be more concerned with his team barely encroaching our area for 90 minutes, the knob.
Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior says Arsenal’s coaching staff showed a lack of respect after accusing them of encroaching on his side’s half of the pitch during the warm-ups in Tuesday’s Carabao Cup semi-final defeat.

And then his team proceeded to respect us by not encroaching on our half of the pitch for 96 minutes.

Frankly who was on the market who was a “30 goals in all competitions” striker? Ekitike’s doing very well, and even then I don’t think he’ll hit 30 (that would need him to double his current output). My suspicion is the only Premier League player who hits that landmark this season is Haaland.
I think a lot of the criticism of Gyokeres is based on people having expectations of him that never made sense to me. I’d had him down for 15 goals in all comps this season. He’s currently on 11. That’s fine. And yes, there’s some penalties in that; I had him down as scoring a few in that 15 too.

Just thinking about this gives me chills (see also the reply where you add that Per, his old Vice Captain, came back to work with the academy and has been a key part of Mikel’s success).

Mark my words, someone will adapt this to a screenplay if we end up doing what we can this season.
It’s literally like a plot of a movie. A player who joined us in the wake of 8-2 at OT, who took a pay cut to join us, who left the club when he still wanted to keep playing, but his body wouldn’t let him, makes the brave decision to leave and learn as a coach, then comes back to rebuild the club.

The flaw with comparing Chelsea’s approach to Anfield 89 is we had to win by 2. The tactic made sense if they were level or if they were 2 down (because conceding and needing 3 could be fatal). It made no sense when they were only 1 down. Even if you concede, scoring 2 is hardly a mountain to climb.

To be fair I’ve heard stories from fans who were there for the Chelsea game that the fans were actively trying not to let their anxiety spill out onto the pitch.

I think what happened against United may yet be a watershed moment for our fanbase. We’ll see when we face Sunderland.

The fact that the media narrative is all about how boring we are or how anti-football we are or some other shit, instead of this, is telling. Any other club, the story would be this, it’s the kind of shit books will be written about because it’s a goddamn fairytale story.
“That a former club captain with no managerial experience has led the club from the (relative) doldrums and looks on course to deliver a first league title in 22 years.”

There’s a really great story happening here if we can just slow down and appreciate it (obviously easier said than done)

Don’t tell them! They’ll all start doing it!
Can’t believe no team has thought about putting 10 players on the halfway line and just leaving the keeper to defend corners yet.
February 5, 2026 at 12:54 PM
Way too much made of this.

We had 2 corners all game and both were dangerous, including a possible hand ball.

The reason we were less dangerous on corners in the second leg than the first is we had 9 in the first leg and 2 in the second.

Nothing to do with their tactics on corners.
Chelsea left three players up the pitch when facing Arsenal's vaunted corner routines on Tuesday 🧐

The tactic forced Arsenal to respond and reduced the number of players in the box. That was in stark contrast the first leg, when Ben White scored from a corner inside seven minutes. Good plan? 🤔

The other flaw with comparing last night to the United game is that United didn’t go behind until 29 minutes in. If you look at the numbers for United after going behind they make for better reading. Chelsea started last night’s game effectively behind because of the first leg.

For all the narrative about our failing attack, we’ve failed to win 9 games this season in all competitions. In only 3 did we fail to score. The other 6 we scored in, but conceded. The odds favoured the approach where Chelsea tried to score, even if it meant conceding.

Love this piece.

Even if I disagree that Chelsea’s approach was the right one (one source had United’s xG at 0.98 and Chelsea at 0.71 last night, so I think there’s a middle ground), ultimately I think we would have won last night no matter what.

Because like life, we find a way.

Huh…so it’s *not* just an Arsenal issue.

Wouldn’t know that to listen to folk.
Only 2.5% of Premier League games have been won by at least four clear goals this season, the lowest percentage in the competition's history.

Arsenal's 4-0 victory at Leeds on Saturday was just the sixth occurrence in 2025-26. There were 33 such wins in the 2023-24 campaign.

This. There’s an assumption that if you have a 30 goal a season striker you as a team will score more goals, and while that’s likely, it’s not a certainty bc more goals from one area can lead to less goals in others. If Gyokeres had 9 more goals we probably wouldn’t have 9 more goals as a team.
It's not a zero-sum game, but naturally the more you spread goals around, the fewer individual players will actually score. Suppose Gyokeres had 20 goals rather than 11. Would that mean we'd have 9 more goals? Or that our playing style would be sufficiently different to mean fewer goals elsewhere?

Just think of all the pieces about Arsene’s teams being guilty of “trying to pass it in the net” and how they “don’t like it up them”.

Trust me, these same people would be calling us naive, not entertaining. They would say stuff like “they play nice stuff but you know what’s entertaining? Winning.”
With pundits you are damned either way. If you are conventionally entertaining (but fatally flawed) you don’t have what it takes, are maligned for naïveté. If you are incredible at many things but at the expense of drama you are “ruining the game” and boring those who demand superficial pleasure.

Thought he was excellent defensively but once again offered nothing the other way and slowed down our play at times. Maybe this is the adaptation to a more true fullback from an outside CB but he’s not looking like a £45m player to me. I like him a lot, but for half that.
Not sure why I am seeing some hate for Piero Hincapie. I thought he was decent today - nothing past him.

People forget he just turned 24, new league; new culture and he’s had to play two very different positions.

Important part of this squad that will keep getting better.
February 3, 2026 at 10:57 PM
The thing is, we’re not always. Against Inter we were anything but. We play the game the way the situation calls for.

We’re not the best attacking team and we’ll never be swashbuckling, but like tonight for example…

We set up to counter, but Chelsea didn’t even really try for an hour.
There's this thing that happens with online discourse around Arsenal where non-Arsenal fans say they're boring and horrible to watch, and Arsenal fans respond by saying they're actually enjoyable.

No they're not. They are boring. The correct response is "mad cuz bad, skill issue, scoreboard."

In a game Chelsea had to win they had 5 shots in our penalty area worth 0.68 xG. But all the talk will be about us, the team that didn’t need to win (but did anyway) despite us creating 0.91 xG in a game where 0-0 suited us down to the ground…
February 3, 2026 at 10:13 PM
I do not know on what planet you can say this isn’t a penalty. He goes diving in with his studs showing, he’s not in control, he gets the ball but goes through the man. Thought this was exactly the type of challenge we were supposed to have outlawed for player safety?
Studs up with the first leg, followed by the trip up with the second leg!!!

Penalty all the way…

That’ll teach the ref for dragging out this 6 minutes into the 8th minute of added time.

Fuck off you cheating blue wankers.
February 3, 2026 at 9:57 PM
Huh…when Saliba gave away that penalty against Brighton last season having WON THE BALL and caught the attacker on the follow through with his head…we were told that was a foul bc he makes contact with the player after the ball on the follow through and it’s a foul.

Make your minds up.
February 3, 2026 at 9:45 PM
If that’s given the one in the first half had to be.
February 3, 2026 at 9:40 PM
OMG YES! I thought I was the only one who saw that!
Can’t get over the fact that Hincapie should be a bassist in a nu-metal band.

Estevao’s very talented, but Jurrien has already kept Vini Jr in his back pocket before, so I’m not sure the new kid on the block is gonna phase him.
