Legendary Arsenal manager Herbert Chapman died on this day in 1934. Three weeks later, Arsenal appointed his widow as hostess in the club tea room on a salary of £500 per year.
At the time, footballers were subject to a maximum wage of £368 per year.

It’s almost worth becoming a football manager just so you can get either of the Chelsea or Man Utd jobs for a year and then retire handsomely off the money

Chopper Harris. Kerry Dixon. Ken Bates. Dan Petrescu.

The Chelse of Fulham are a noble, proud club, with cheery fans renowned for their enlightened repartee.

We wish them luck today 🙏🏻

Kidnapping the leader of a foreign state without any declaration of war and announcing it via social media is full-on rogue state stuff. From the world’s number one superpower.

This is good, worth your time.

I’ve been *disappointed* with Hincapié’s distribution this season (to say the least). Tuesday was the most I’ve been comfortable with him, once he switched to the marauding role.
NEW: Arsenal dominated the second half in the win over Aston Villa but control was earned with aggressive pressing and an in-possession tweak in the first half. For @arseblog.com: p1r.es/4snFWcb

Needless to say, Chelsea would never tap up a rival during the season.

It’s actually 3, been reminded of the one v Man City too. Very impressive still & believe this is across all comps.
The two at Sunderland the only goals we’ve conceded with Gabi & Saliba both on the pitch?

As a sidenote, the full time whistle was blown at 10.13pm last night, meaning that away fans from the Midlands wouldn’t get back until 1am or later.

One of many incremental changes to the game that screws match-going supporters.

The KOs could’ve easily been staggered 6.45pm & 7.30pm instead.

Behold the Gingers Reverse Jinx, for its power shall never fade.
Villa are for real.

Liverpool won the league off the back of a storming first four months & lack of any serious contender.

(Neither a revelation, I know, some things just bear repeating).

You can’t say I didn’t do my bit, Arsenal, with this tasty offering to the gods.
Sitting here idly wondering if I’d accept a 5-0 Ashes defeat if it meant Arsenal winning every league game during the series.

OTD 1925 Arsenal beat Notts County 3-0 in the first game played at Highbury on Christmas day. Before 1925 they were tenants of St John's College who refused to allow Arsenal to play games on holy days. Arsenal bought the freehold to Highbury in 1925 which removed this restriction
