The departure of Rosenior from Strasbourg to Chelsea exposes multi club ownership for what it is: All of that once independent clubs are in service of the top one. They will lose talent at the click of a private equity investor’s finger. Governing bodies allowed this inevitability to happen.

He might go on to do well, but the idea of Liam Rosenior being Chelsea’s manager is pretty mad on the face of it given his experience so far. The commentary so far, all in largely neutral terms, is based on his “understanding of how BlueCo operate”. What a strange old business football has become.

Had a call from someone who said he’s looking to move back to London “despite all the problems in the city now.” Had no idea what he was on about. London is as great as it’s ever been, but seems to be in the midst of some deliberate campaign to talk it down. If you don’t like it here, stay in Dubai.

Football fans will be familiar with Chelsea turning a profit by selling things they own — hotels, women’s team — back to themselves. This strategy is very familiar to its majority owner Clearlake Capital, and investors are worried.

Interesting data from FIFA: Clubs in men’s professional game paid USD 1.37 billion in service fees for club agents, an increase of over 90% compared to last year.

There have been significant transfer fees this year of course and wages, particularly in England and KSA, are huge.
