I agree with Tim. The constants of my Britishness for the last 70 years were The Queen until her death, the NHS and the BBC. If you can define it our education system too and our National Parks
Buckle up - because this now amounts to a direct and deliberate attack on our country and its cultural sovereignty. Which side our politicians take - Trump's or the BBC's - over the coming days and weeks will speak volumes about their patriotism.
Trump says he will sue BBC for at least $1bn over Panorama edit
The US president confirmed he intends to sue the broadcaster for at least $1bn over the Panorama edit of a 2021 speech.

Given baseball earnings, these allegations are astonishing and the motivation could not be financial if the charges are proven

Just a few weeks back Chikli rolled out the red carpet for Tommy Robinson.
There are some weird analyses and narratives around for sure

November 5th always has my mind wandering back to the village of Wall Heath where I grew up and where the remaining ‘plotters’ were holed up and caught in Holbeche House. We used to play in nearby Himley woods fleeing the imagined ghosts on horseback of those fugitives.

Pleased to see this resolution
Oh, look at this - the letting agents apologise for NOT applying for the rental license & say Rachel Reeves would have been under the impression the license HAD been applied for.

Can we have the apologies now from everyone who have been absolutely obnoxious today in their handling of the story?

I don’t understand the narrative Braverman trying to push. Advertisers aren’t a branch of Government or public service. They are a commercial operation doing what works to maximise revenues
Suella Braverman defends Reform MP Sarah Pochin.

Braverman "believes" what Pochin said "about the number of black and Asian faces" in TV ads is accurate

As it happens: South Asians are significantly under-represented in TV ads (compared to share of population)

I sometimes wonder if they are actively seeking a huge de-population event

Of course the London property market is different to elsewhere but 2 mill is quite a high bar and it is difficult to see how anyone in a +£2mill house couldn’t afford a charge that would be less than existing utilities and council tax. If they can’t maybe downsizing is a sensible choice

@jwsidders.bsky.social was this a surprise?

Can probably discount Labour from this one but it’s clear that there is significant opposition to Farage and Reform sitting behind the polls
Caerphilly, Senedd constituency by-election result:

PC: 47.4% (+19.0)
REF: 36.0% (+34.2)
LAB: 11.0% (-34.9)
CON: 2.0% (-15.3)
GRN: 1.5% (+1.5)
LDEM: 1.5% (-1.2)
GWL: 0.3% (+0.3)
UKIP: 0.2% (+0.2)

Plaid Cymru GAIN from Labour.

Whenever I see these analyses my first thought is ‘who is and who funds the Migration Advisory Committee’ genuine question of anyone can answer
Brian Bell, chair of the migration Advisory Committee, says "the government would be in breach, very clear breach, of its manifesto commitment to reduce net migration" if it signed up to an uncapped EU youth mobility scheme. I don't think that's true. 1/n

Brussels’ Brexit reset demands put Keir Starmer in a migration bind
The European Union’s pitch for youth mobility is asking Keir Starmer to break his manifesto pledges on migration.

If we accept that getting older is a ‘thing’ this rather takes the indefinite out of ILR
Here Lam explicitly sets out her proposal - which is official Conservative Party policy - to deport long-standing legal permanent residents who have *ever* claimed any benefit, including the state pension or child benefit (even if the child is British), or who earn less than £39K.

All as Tice and Yousef tell us that opposition politicians don’t have enough real - world business experience. They can’t even mange a small/ medium sized company- that’s all Reform is without the free and subsidised media coverage and amplification that it gets
Reform says not paying VAT on sales was an error bit.ly/4nZQETT Party promises to pay anything owed after failing to register for VAT when income from ticket sales exceeded the threshold
Reform reviews whether it underpaid VAT after Times investigation
Nigel Farage’s party could face fines as documents indicate it failed to notify HMRC that it was required to pay extra tax

Worth stressing that this level of incompetence only puts off those who would never vote for Reform. Competency at a Corporate and individual level is an irrelevance to Reform’s core supporters
October 20, 2025 at 8:39 AM
I think this is really shocking and the media ought to be magnifying the level of incompetence and unsuitability for Government

Hoping I’m wrong but it may be that the safest off-ramp ends up
Being a game behind closed doors
I still have no idea what Number 10 was thinking intervening over policing. If they ‘win’ the standoff, Keir Starmer personally owns any incident that happens around the match. And he’s broken the precedent of interfering in operational matters, and so will be asked to do so relentlessly.

Agree with this. I cannot fathom why Starmer reacted so quickly and decisively in a way you would only act if you knew all the facts and knew the decision to be ‘wrong’. If he discovers the facts support the original decision I hope he accepts it as the publicity can only have heightened the risks

A real frustration for me is the repeated failure to mention that Maccabi fans and their Ultras will be visiting our community from another Country. Whether or not I thought it a good idea I would expect the police to manage a protest by UK pro Israeli activists in this community. This is not that.
While Jenrick is obvs wrong about policing, crime and violence + also wrong about longterm trends integratio

But he is importantly wrong - in a less obvious way - about community too

The average attendance at Aston Villla in 1986 was only 15,000: that atmosphere didn't bring people together
