"You have agency. Things don't have to suck." is basically the thesis of my entire career & life.

I explain what I mean -- politically, socially, emotionally -- in this convo about our year of hosting weekly dinners. forevers.substack.com/p/friendship...

Put most bluntly:

If you want nice things, and if you want to keep our constitutional republic, then we must all work together to

There is simply no alternative.

So it’s a race: how quickly can a person’s family realize they were snatched and find a lawyer, and how quickly can that lawyer get a habeas petition of file? And is that faster than ICE can load the detainee on a plane to Texas?

It’s exhausting and terrifying. It can be life and death.

Trump’s DHS says everyone who is not a citizen or LPR is “arriving”… even if they arrived two or three decades ago.

You don’t have to be a lawyer to know that makes no sense. But lawyers interpret statutes according to a hierarchy of agreed-upon “canons of construction.”

Also remember that few if any of them have been found to violate ANY law in a court that actually provided the minimum notice and right to be heard in their own defense. So these aren’t “convicts” or “illegals” as far as anyone knows. They’re just whoever the kidnappers found at the moment.
Whenever you read a horrifying list like this about people who are critically ill or died in ICE concentration camps it’s important to remember that these are just the stories that got out because they were lucky enough to have lawyers who could tell their stories.

Seen enough to realize that the institution is rotten? Its enablers are ghouls. Let's do our best to be better than "ordinary" Americans.
On Thanksgiving, the immigrant children held at the Dilley detention center gathered in the gym for what they thought was a holiday feast.

The kids salivated over a spread of turkey, sandwiches, pastries and pies, a family told me.

But the food wasn’t for detainees — it was for the staff.

1/ I have been told that by trying to organize my community to prevent kidnappings I’m making “a dangerous situation.”

No. I’m responding to a dangerous situation, created by an administration that has breached the contract of compliance that makes law enforcement safe: when arrested

A Reuters photographer captured this image of a page from Pam Bondi's "burn book," which she used to counter any questions from Democratic lawmakers during an unhinged hearing today.

It looks like the DOJ monitored members of Congress’s searches of the unredacted Epstein files.

Just wow.

A powerful moment.

Every single survivor of Epstein’s in that room raised their hand in response to the question — Who still has not been contacted by the DOJ?

Bondi is is purposefully acting as a shield and guard to an international network of child rapists.

She needs to be removed.
Jayapal asks Epstein survivors in hearing room to stand and raise hands if they still haven't been able to meet with Bondi's DOJ. Every single one of them doe. Jayapal then gives Bondi an opportunity to apologize. She responds by trying to attack Jayapal and Merrick Garland but doesn't apologize.

"A threat to anyone’s constitutional rights is a threat to us all. Today, immigrants are being detained without due process. Tomorrow, under the Government’s [view], American citizens could be subject to the same treatment. This Court will not allow such an unraveling of the Constitution."
BONUS RULING: Judge Thomas Johnston, a George W. Bush appoiintee in West Virginia, used a recent ruling to warn of the dangers of defying due process for immigrants because of what it could also mean for Americans. It's worth a read.

Anybody who saw this and doesn’t want to live in a Latin pop video should rethink their life choices.

Personally I’ve wanted to work at the despacito bar since 2016. But I would be down with Bad Bunny’s pink porch.
No, it will illustrate the nations racism divide. Bad Bunny is a citizen by birth born in America to America parents. But he sings in Spanish. So it will piss off people who think speaking Spanish is mutually exclusive with being American. You know, racists.
The Super Bowl halftime show, with Bad Bunny showcasing Latin music before a global television audience expected to top 100 million, will illustrate the nation’s immigration divide whether or not the reggaeton star delivers an explicit political message.

ICE told nurses this Minneapolis man “purposefully ran headfirst into a brick wall.”

What actually happened is that they pulled him from a car, beat him so viciously with a steel baton that he had 8 skull fractures, 5 life-threatening brain hemorrhages, and couldn’t remember he had a daughter.

I really hope people advocating to ban kids from SM read this. Some kids are isolated by disabilities or circumstances. Furthermore, some kids grow up in abusive households. “Ideally, a child’s exposure to online worlds should be moderated by their parents” isn’t a reassuring sentiment for everyone
