Everything may be terrible, but I bet you can find one good thing for today.
I spent most of today going back through my dissertation’s chapters 1 + 2, and it’s such a wild and gratifying experience to find all the seeds of my argument scattered in those early pages I wrote!
This is the first time I’ve taken an inductive approach in my writing, and I’m so hooked.

I will be giving Senator Chamberville a call to let him know I will actively campaign against his reelection
Tim Kaine on backlash he's getting: "I got the first good night's sleep last night that I've gotten since Oct 1, b/c I wasn't worried about being able to look Capitol Police in the eye when I walked in, or what a furloughed fed worker would say to me at church, or what somebody would say about SNAP"

this zero-sum way of thinking reeks of privilege, and I’m OVER it
Comer: "This is a fake economy. You can't have 1/3 of America receiving some type of free government healthcare and then have another 1/3 that's getting a subsidized rate. That falls on the final 1/3 that's having to pay increased premiums."

Under Schumer's leadership, eight Democrats (Cortez Masto, Durbin, Fetterman, Hassan, Kaine, King, Rosen, & Shaheen) joined the Republicans in moving forward a bill to reopen the government without ACA subsidies—Dems' stated key aim—or any other real concessions from the status before the shutdown.

The average SNAP benefit per month is $177 a person.
The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.
People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives.
And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.

My other cowardly Senator’s mailbox is now so full no more messages will go through
I will do everything I can to make sure this fool (& his counterpart @markwarner.bsky.social) get their asses voted out.
If you vote yes, you’re betraying more than your constituents, you are betraying your country

Hey folks, as news of Watson's demise spreads, please don't set aside his weighty legacy of misogyny and racism. He was truly among the worst of us. www.vox.com/2019/1/15/18...
DNA scientist James Watson has a remarkably long history of sexist, racist public comments
“People say it would be terrible if we made all girls pretty,” he said in 2003. “I think it would be great.”
