It bugs me that "Where's yer poppy?" attacks, which flag shaggers use to imply a lack of "proper" remembrance, are always made against people (usually political enemies), but never against the massive corporations which flood all media with Christmas ads before Remembrance/Armistice days.

M&S app tells me that it's "not too late" to order food for Christmas dinner. As tasteful 11th Nov messaging goes, it's less #LestWeForget and more #LolWeForgot

In the manner of Better Man, James Bond should be Paddington Bear BUT NO ONE SHOULD MENTION IT.
This would lean into Paddington Bear as the being who escorts people to the afterlife, but in this scenario he would be being more proactive about it

A free 30-day trial, you say? So the service is free for the next 30 days? So you don't need to take any payment details now - after all, you don't know yet if I'll choose to continue with a paid subscription! Just trying to save you a bit of possibly unnecessary admin!

Boring story time: I usually go to the gym in an old promotional T-shirt for a programming workshop I helped out at in 2017.
Last week I noticed a man staring at me. He ignored my attempt at eye contact, but I'd already clocked he was...the kind of man who likes trains but hates itchy labels.

Punctuality discourse over at The Bad Place.
"Allow lots of extra time in case something unexpected makes you late" is a great strategy for important, rare and time-specific events like flights, weddings and graduation ceremonies.
It is not advisable for daily commutes or normal socialising!

As part of Operation Organise My Digital Workspace, I just dragged a swathe of Google Drive documents into a newly created folder and in the process discovered well over half of them were not draggable 😭
So if someone shares a doc with you, you can't put it in a folder on your own drive? REALLY?

If there was just one thing I wish every healthy person could understand, it is this: ANYONE can get a chronic illness.
Illnesses like #MECFS & #LongCovid can happen to absolutely anyone, it doesn’t matter how healthy you are.
Chronic illness can happen to good people. It could happen to you.

Gumtree collector: is 3pm ok?
Me: That works for us! The address is XYZ, and the house looks like this
Gumtree collector hours later after failing to turn up: I went elsewhere because you didn't get back to me
Me: so you didn't get the message with the address?
Him: yeah but not until later

In a world where fossil fuels didn't exist, they'd be invented in fantasy as a fictional trope
oh yeah, of course the dominion of the evil sorceress powers their machines with black sludge that is literally made from death and decay, what else would they use?

A learner asked me to check the Welsh of a document they'd written and I was delighted to see misspellings.
Why? Because misspellings happen when you're writing! They do not happen when you're copying & pasting from an online dictionary or Google Translate. The *quality* of errors is so important.

Thank you, E.ON for promising so sweetly to help lil ol' muddlehead me with my silly old tendency to get myself in pickles (being £139 in credit because you keep taking too much money)

Remember the bad old days of getting bills in the post and having to file them? What a drag!
Now I simply get an email telling me I've got a bill and I simply log in (after a failed attempt or two) simply navigate to My Bills, then View Bills, then download the right one and give it a filename.

My partner is having a real-life "who moved my cheese?" situation as our local Asda moves everything round for Christmas and all the normal stuff you actually want is hidden.
I would like Christmas a *lot* more if untimely festive nonsense didn't make unrelated aspects of my life harder.

But before you tremble in fear,
bear in mind there's nothing else here.
Lone and level sands stretch far away across the lithosphere.
I'm Ozymandias!
My glory will not pass
from the earth...
bear in mind there's nothing else here.

I'm Ozymandias!

Sculptor stamped my cold command on it,
now I'm the lifeless king in your sonnet.
See my works, ye mighty, and despair!
There's a pedestal opposite me
covered in epigraphy
that celebrates my grandeur, lacking all humility.

I'm the king of kings
I'm not the king of kings
but I'm the wreckage of a king
but really I'm not actually a king
but I am...
Shattered visage in the desert by the stone legs
wrinkles its lip at you.
