Below 80% of UK residents have access to a car, so statistically it's kind of impressive how many Freegle or Gumtree collectors are having car trouble at any one time.

I'm not saying ignorance is good, I'm saying the world is so fucking vast & complex that most people will be ignorant about most things most of the time, & if you think _other people_ shouldn't be then you're at risk of becoming an intolerant asshole, & if you think _you_ shouldn't be you'll go mad.

I've noticed that in *every* episode of #TheTraitors, James reacts to any criticism by jumping in to agree before the other person finishes.

"You're totally shit because - "
"Fair"

He's basically an ADHD diagnosis on legs, so maybe it's rejection sensitivity making him try to shut it down?

This is a pretty good comparison! Early flush toilets overloaded a sewer system that couldn't cope with the volume of sewage and water being flushed into it. Just like AI, it made life more unpleasant for many people and some actually died (mostly of cholera).
AI-assisted software engineering is like the flush toilet 😄

I just read an article about "dumb phones." There is a class of people who have decided that smartphones are evil, so they've returned to phone technology circa 1990. No apps. No big screen or QWERTY keyboard. Just a phone (and txt).

Why gardeners should take more photos: www.gwenfarsgarden.info/2026/01/gard...

This concept has a much wider application. Most big wins come from incremental progress, which is hard to see when you're in it. You need to take snapshots of your starting point to see how far you've come!

I'm thinking of switching from butter to margarine until the spring. Not for health reasons (I think butter is actually healthier) but because I'm tired of ripping the bread with my knife trying to spread those mean chilly lumps into a layer of tasty.

It is worth remembering that if the law was adhered to, their trials would have been last month.

Instead the government proposes to hold them until May, without trial until then.

The law says no more than 6 months on remand before trial. This is routinely set aside.
A number of people on this platform have been claiming that it's not up to government to shorten people's time on remand, however far beyond the statutory limit that time extends.
Well, take it from a very eminent retired judge. It is.
