Youth offenders, aged as young as 14, could face 20 year jail terms for violent crimes under proposal
Children as young as 14 who commit “serious crimes” will be sentenced as adults under a Victorian government plan to combat youth crime.
The state government said on Wednesday that it will adopt an “adult time for violent crime” laws similar to those in Queensland, which implemented the tough approach in 2024. Continue reading...

A MEASURED PROPOSAL:
Donald J. Trump is suing the BBC for reporting on him—they edited down an interview of his and made him feel bad.
It is NOT SAFE to report on Donald J. Trump.
So I suggest that for safety all news channels should replace every mention of him with the Hypnotoad:

The difference is that they made a hell of a lot of federal workers miss paychecks and snap recipients worry about where their next meal was coming from. You can’t play with people‘s live like this without delivering anything.
The people mad today were equally mad six months ago when the same thing happened and then forgot it happened mostly. With that said I think the risk for Dems is that the rage persists in an inchoate way that can’t even really be cured, since no one remembers where it came from

Trump has had 6 lawsuits against US media orgss before going international with the BBC. To date, he has not won a single case, though 2 organisations settled for relatively minor amounts for commercial viability. He is basically trying to shake the media down to force their silence and compliance.

Voters want a Democratic Party that fights back against the forces that have rigged the system and made their lives more difficult.
A party that comforts the afflicted and afflicts the comfortable —not a party that buckles and capitulates.
When will party leadership learn this lesson?

American politics makes a lot more sense when you realize that the GOP is afraid of pissing off the GOP base, and the Dems are afraid of pissing off the GOP base, but neither party is afraid of pissing off the Dem base.

Looks like at least one or two people in this chain are acting in bad faith.
Regular reminder that Axios stories saying Dems are about to cave are likely sourced from GOP staffers trying to make it happen.
Doesn't mean it definitely won't happen. But it's like those NYT stories that Harvard is considering caving (they haven't). The anonymous source was trying to manifest it.
